Starting Thursday, Starbucks customers will have the option to save their planet - and their wallets - a dime at a time. The coffee giant is offering $1 plastic cups, which can be reused for drink purchases at a discount of ten cents.

I've a Sturbucks tumbler on me at all times!

The type of plastic used for making these tumblers is one that can withstand very high temperatures.

If I bought coffee at starbucks, this would be a good idea. I brew a pot at home and take it with me in a thermos to work--all month for pretty much what a cup or two at starbucks would cost! Glad they're pushing the reusable cups tho!

hopefully it will do what its meant to do....I don't drink starbucks (or any chain coffee), but do try and carry reusable eating utensils of all types with me.....not as perfect as I'd like.

I'd definitely keep a mug with me. Bravo to Starbuck's for listening to their customers. Reduce - Reuse - Recycle is so important. More customers and businesses need to get on board with this.

While we are talking about reusable cups, I'd like to see more people carrying their own sacks and bags into the grocery and other types of stores. I've been doing this for well over 30 years and I've seen little change in others doing so. With so many proclaimed environmentalist, this is one easy place for many to get on board. Many sell them right at the stores now, or get creative and make your own that speak of your own unique self. Make them out of cloth then just toss them into the washer from time to time.

I'm very please a this effort even if the primary purpose is advertising. As Pam said, one little step. Now we just need many little steps to accomplish great things.

Well, took them long enough to jump on
the bandwagon. Now they can well afford
to buy a huge patch land and plant trees.

I agree with Christeen A-reusable is good but plastic almost cancels it out. Too bad they couldn't get a cup better for the environment.

better yet - bring your own cup/mug so you don't have to spend on the $1 plastic cup.

I have a collection of coffee/tea travel mugs and always have one in the car or in my pack when I cycle to work and I know I bought at least one of them at a a Starbucks.

It will be interesting to see of people take advantage of this. I think it is a step in the right direction, but they should consider a greater discount for those who bring their own reusabe cup/mug. Thanks for the post!
