We urge you to officially designate the Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group, urging the IRS to revoke the organization's tax-exempt status and increasing law enforcement's ability to block them from disrupting private funerals.

This group of sociopaths needs to be locked up along with being labeled a hate group...when the KKK tries to distance itself from them, you know it's long past due.

I can't believe these people are actually tax exempt!! The sad part is that the members are almost all lawyers, and know how to fight every court case that arises, and know exactly how much they can get away with under the law.

Allan, God never uses such language. It saddens Him to know that His children have chosen to DESRECRATE HIS NAME IN THE CHURCH. THE CHURCH IS GOD'S HOUSE; One MUST BE RESPECTFUL while in GOD'S HOUSE. Signed and noted. Thnx Cal.

Petition signed.

It is interesting to note that the FBI has declared the OWS as a terrorist group.

The FBI has done nothing towards the Westboro Baptist Church in "granting" this organization
as a hate group.

Hey Cal, give your friend Gillian, my thanks as well. I hope this petition works. These people are the real lowest form of life, hypocritical parasites.
Rebecca says that most of these people are lawyers, despite the negative stereotypes of lawyers, I really though they had some brains..go know.

Maybe people should start to picked funerals of people belonging to this church with signs that read "God hates Westboro Baptists" and "Westboro Baptists die God laughs" just as the heinous man on the petition photo is holding the signs against gays. It's disgusting to see people using faith to spread hate and intolerance and to add grief to people that lost a loved. Maybe if they're harassed the same way they will stop.

The most important thing is to recognize who they are. These are not people of faith. They are people of defiance. They make themselves feel better by making everyone around them feel worse. Often at the worst possible moment of your life.

The FBI cannot revoke there tax exempt status. The IRS can. Write to them as well as your congressman/Senator. They will have little love there.

22,000.....we can do better! Please send the link to everyone you know!

The problem with this "church" is that it essentially has no members other than one family of LUNATICS! So, picketing THEIR functions isn't possible.

Cutting off their tax-exemption would REALLY hurt them!

I signed it, but frankly, I don't expect any effect. The IRS can only initiate a church tax inquiry (and if it has the word "church" as the main noun in its name, its a church) if "a designated high-ranking IRS official" reasonably believes etc. (see http://www.irs.gov/Charities-&-Non-Profits/Churches-&-Religious-Organizations/Special-Rules-Limiting-IRS-Authority-to-Audit-a-Church) - and the kicker is that there is no official who is so designated, and has not been for I forget how many years, so there is no way an investigation can be initiated. I suppose Congress could authorize one, which brings us back to Congress again.

I signed. Is so amazing how these people twist their brains around to this point. What ever happened to a God that loved ALL his children? I wouldn't want to know their God if he HATES so much. Bunch of wackos that need to be reigned in. If that is true what Ellen said about the KKK then you know you are far far out on a limb, hope it breaks soon.

would they still be a "church" if it was burned down (by God of course, being careless where "he" throws his cigarette butts). hmmm...that would be holy smoke? Didn't think God smokes? Well, I didn't know God "hates" gays either.
If these nuts are tax exempt, maybe I could create my own "church" and qualify for the same honor?

This is the story that came to me with the petition, I was so angry for these 2 women as well as the families of those who lost family in the Newtown massacre!

In late November, 2004, when my father was laid out at Schrader's Mortuary In Ballwin, Mo., a fallen member of the military was also laid out there. Because of that, those damned Westboro Baptist crazies picketed the funeral home. My mother and I had no family, so we depended upon members of my father's American Legion Post to act as pall bearers. Almost all of those men were older vets, and all except the post Commander refused to come to the funeral home and to the funeral out of fear of those Westboro monsters. In the end, we had to ask the funeral directors to act as pall bearers, because we had no one else. My father's American Legion brothers were willing to join us only after the funeral procession had left the funeral home and arrived at the cemetery, many miles away. My mother and I sat in the funeral home mostly alone, without anyone to support us, because almost no one felt safe enough to come be in that funeral home, because of the Westboro Baptist bastards picketing there. Our time was a time spent alone and in the depths of pain. I will never forgive them for the additional and unnecessary pain they caused my mother and me. NO ONE and NO GROUP should ever be allowed to do that to another family. Those people spew nothing but hatred.
