“There is a regional oil spill contingency plan, but developing national and provincial oil spill contingency plans remains a challenge facing the government.” At least it wasn't an oil tanker! You would think there would be some type of international program to assist. Yes, a wake up call indeed!

Sad to hear. The title of the article really gets me where it states "Pacific Islands Wakes up to.... ", That makes me wonder if all of the people who are reasonable to preventing these problems has been sleeping or just plain been ignorant about these problems???? Otherwise they should of beendoing whatever they could to prevent these things from happening, banning these companies from drilling, etc. Thanks Cal

Experienced pilots should be compulsary in dangerous shipping lanes to prevent accidents like this. Foreign crews don't know those waters as well as locals do.
