I don't trust Cuomo with drilling the Marcellus Shale, but on this issue, with a lot of hunters in our state - this is a brilliant coup -- if Cuomo can do this where is our congress? -- oh yea -- they're sipping tea _ pinkies up and AK's sitting on their laps!

I hope it passes and that other states look at this bill and decide to do the same.

@lee e. I understand he is still conflicted and weighing the benefits of fracking. I'm against it so I hope he chooses to preserve the beauty of New York. As for this gun issue-I say-Cuomo ROCKS the Empire State and once again NY is becoming a true leader in so many areas. I believe even if the court kicks it back due to a legal challenge (3 days for public hearings and comment were skipped) that this law will stand, and the idiocy of high power, high speed assault rifles will be less in at least this one, hopefully influential, state.

Noted. Good for NY! As Winn mentioned above, the best thing that could happen is it could be a blueprint for other states to follow...which will help immensely when presented to Congress later this year. Keeping my fingers crossed and continuing to sign petitions, send letters and inform others.

Another reason not to go to NY.

Crime rate will soar.

You go, Cuomo! I voted for your father, and if I were still in N.Y. I'd have voted for you.
The "visit site" button took me to a Fox News page, on which was displayed alink to a story titled "is there a movement to reduce your second amendment rights"? Or something close to that. Coming from Fox, the answer was probably something like Sarah's "you bet"cha!" bull.
Maybe there should be a law against incitement to stupidity.

Good on Gov Cuomo! Reasonable controls have to start somewhere, and now NY state can provide some leadership.

@ Mitchell D --- "Maybe there should be a law against incitement to stupidity" --- LOL dude. So right. I saw those same links and the one you speak of was Lou Dobbs and his chalk board puting the right-wing spin aka Faux Noise spin on gun control. His main question --- would any of the enhanced gun control laws have stopped Newtown? Maybe, maybe not. As you said "Maybe there should be a law against incitement to stupidity".

Shows that we in NY can do what Obama and Congress should do in the US. The law is not at all onerous to gun owners, hunters or target shooters. Wannabe killers will now have a harder time getting a semi-automatic killing machine.

Like others above, I wish Cuomo and the state legislature would show as much spine on the shale issue and simply band HVHF in our lovely state.

Good and I want the entire country to have the heaviest, most inforced gun control laws ever!

Bravo, NY! I hope as NY goes, so goes the rest of the country!
