Ty for posting Cal ~ Done ~ Echoing Ellen's comment. . .our family has lived in WA since 1886. . .this is WA's backyard and it STINKS...has been of great concern since the 1950's. . . court battles were fought into the 1980's to get classified documents released to expose what was going on. . .the people who are sick "downwinders" are still fighting their court cases to this day. . ."HEART OF AMERICA" are grass roots that have never let up for one day for over two decades in court battles, public hearings and alerting the media and public. . .

"The first thread is the extreme secrecy and isolation of this government project starting in 1943 in the midst of World War II. In most cases the Hanford workers did not know that their job was making the plutonium for atomic bombs until the bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. Security remained very tight during the decades of the Cold War. The government did not reveal a number of significant health-related events until forced to do so in the late 1980s by citizen exercise of the Freedom of Information Act. Although highly sophisticated radiation monitoring was performed throughout the history of Hanford, the government did not tell the public the details, repeatedly assuring them that everything was safe."

“The release of atomic power has changed everything except our way of thinking ... the solution to this problem lies in the heart of mankind. If only I had known, I should have become a watchmaker. (1945)” ― Albert Einstein

“The unleashed power of the atom has changed everything except our thinking. Thus, we are drifting toward catastrophe beyond conception. We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.” ― Albert Einstein

Your signature has been recorded. -signed and tweeted. I think we all know that Congress has refused funding for clean up at about 30 nuclear plants, though in many ways I do think these companies that have made so much profit should be forced to clean up their own mess. Many lives could be affected and public safety must come first.
