The Islamic Republic of Iran blesses and encourages sex-change operations on behalf of a policy that considers every citizen not heterosexual as a spirit born in the wrong body.

It is very interesting, and to us appears contradictory: Iran does not "recognize" homosexuality - there ain't no such thing, they say officially - yet, they DO recognize transsexuality.
This is all because Khomeini was CONVINCED by an actual Transsexual person he had conversations with. This is all because of those conversations between a Transsexual, and a person with political power!!!

DO get your minds around this FACT - Transsexuals ARE NOT THE SAME AS GAYS.
Therefore, it IS possible - if not perhaps very realistic or logical - to recognize ONE AND NOT THE OTHER.

Please try to BROADEN YOUR MIND AND SEE THAT THE EUROPEAN MINDSET IS NOT THE ONLY MINDSET.

As the article states, THAILAND is one country, where Transsexuals have been recognized traditionally as a different kind of person. In INDIA, they are called Hijras, and are a special group in society. Traditionally, they could not before modern medicine have sex-change operations; not ALL Transsexuals need them or have them. Hijras in India have their own culture and place in society.

It is GOOD that Iran DOES recognize and pay for treatments for Transsexuals. That puts it in ADVANCE of many "Christian" countries.
It is of course SAD that they DON'T recognize Gay people.
Let us hope that will change sometime soon. Courageous Gays are doing the best they can to change it.
Those reading this article, PLEASE RECOGNIZE GAY PEOPLE AND TRANSSEXUALS, AS TWO DIFFERENT SORTS OF PEOPLE ENTIRELY.
Live and learn! YOU be open-minded.....
