The debt crisis is finally catching up with wind energy, once a fast-growing sector in Europe. After more than a decade of double-digit growth, austerity, rapidly changing energy policies and skittish investors are putting a damper on the industry.

Noted, fracking has also driven down the price of gas which hasn't helped.

It always seems like the programs that are good for either people, wildlife or the environment get the cuts first and the programs that harm but get big dollar returns dont get cut. All governments need to think long term and not just what the bottom line is. I have a fixed income but am willing to pay more if it is going to be good for our environment and future.

They've got their priorities wrong. The cost of not increasing clean renewable energy as fast as possible is more than anyone will be willing to pay when the time comes.
It's like those stories of people making a deal with the devil to rescue them, but they can only find out the price afterwards.
