With the aid of Friends of the Earth Netherlands, Nigerian farmers whose lives and livelihoods were impacted by oil spilled from Shell pipelines took Shell Nigeria and its parent company Royal Dutch Shell to court.

Interesting ru;ing, how do you "do enough to protect its pipelines from sabotage"?

One of the biggest reasons for "sabotage" is the rage these people feel. These buggers come in and take the resources but give nothing back in the way of employment; infrastructure; education or training. The people "sabotage" the pipelines to make a quick buck or to obtain cheap fuel to cook with. Of course a few people have been killed doing this as the pipeline ruptures; .igniting and burning them to death.
Why doesn't Shell patrol and police pipeline safety? It costs money and it interferes with the balance sheet. It's cheaper to repair the pipeline and to settle out of court. Hang the environmental costs.

"Will they admit it?" What do YOU think?

I'd like to see the Nigerians SUE them until they're broke!
