The French state now reimburses 100 percent of the cost of an abortion.

Jennifer may never have an abortion!

To anyone else in the position of facing an unwanted/unintended pregnancy....the French have more compassion and common sense than much of this nation.

Those who are pro abortion: imagine your mother would have had an abortion.

"Abortion in France is legal on demand up to 12-weeks after conception (14 weeks after the last menstrual period),[1][2] since the Veil Law in 1975. Abortions at later stages of pregnancy are allowed if two physicians certify that the abortion will be done to prevent grave permanent injury to the physical or mental health of the pregnant woman; a risk to the life of the pregnant woman; or that the child will suffer from a particularly severe illness recognized as incurable." For those who are anti-abortion: imagine if Adam Lanza's or James Holmes' mother had an abortion.

Studies reveal that anywhere from 10-25% of all clinically recognized pregnancies will end in miscarriage. Chemical pregnancies may account for 50-75% of all miscarriages OR SPONTANEOUS ABORTIONS.
This is a natural occurrences via our Creator if you believe in GOD.

We have sperm, eggs, fetus...all named by science because none is human but just potentially the building blocks for human life. God nor Science has actually told us when life begins but some people arrogantly believe they have the answers for everyone else. .

Good, but an abortion should not be used as birth control, and only used in emergencies.

Are there any legal limits to when a woman cannot have an abortion? This harkens back to Clinton's idiotic proposal : delayed pregnancy.
Planned Parenthood used to offer $99. abortions. When a student was out on a Friday, and came back on a Tuesday, the school knew where she was. This was of course paid by medicade.
I wonder after 5 years what this abomination is going to cost the French citizen.

What in BLAZES do people mean ''an abortion should not be used as birth control?" ANY abortion is needed if the woman deems it so and HER REASONS ARE NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS OR MINE.

Abortion! What a business! - of course France leads - it has always been far more advanced than our mythically led country -- as for the stupid anit-abortionists who actually have the Audacity to think it is used as "birth control" - maybe they should try one out to see how it feels -- this is not a walk in the park procedure, and I don't think any woman (unless somewhat mentally deficient) would say oh - hey - don't put that condom on - I can always have an abortion - get a life!
Unwanted children - and ruined lives are more costly to the state in the final run at the grocery check out~

Bravo to France - finally a country with common sense. Birth control and abortion should be free, no questions asked, mine your own damn business. Just that simple.

Allan - you are such a compassionate person, not. No one is forcing you or anyone to have abortion. You are so smart, aren't you? You would rather pay welfare for a child until he/she is 18 than as you say, pay for a $99 abortion. Which is going to cost more????

pam w (139)
Wednesday April 3, 2013, 5:48 pm
Lee....BIG GREEN STARS to you! Short-sighted people only see the immediate cost and apparently lack the imagination to consider what a LIFETIME of expenses involved in raising a child can do to someone on a limited income.

Unfortunately, these are the same people who look down their noses and announce that women should just ''keep their legs closed." (You all know who you are.)

Right....that'll work. Sure!

The truth is that contraceptives fail, people make mistakes and unwanted pregnancies happen. Deny that and you're living in a dream world.

For the anti abortionists. Nobody will force you to have an abortion and you have no right to insist that others follow your beliefs.

Many years ago when it was still illegal a friend of my wife asked us for a loan to have a "Back room." termination
We did not assist her, we had no desire to be involved, and also didn't have the money. The abortionist, did it for free as long as he had sex with her first. The good Catholic girl had little choice so she got rid of the child, and he gave her syphilis in exchange. So you bigots, tell us you want to bring back the Good Old days.

I am in favor of a woman, be she French, American, or any other nationality, to be thought enough of to make her own medical decision based on her particular circumstances. France has the #1 healthcare system in the world and they have seen fit to NOT allow finances to dictate ANY medical decisions ANY of their citizens must make. Medical procedures are not mandatory, and only the patient and her physician should be making ANY difficult decisions.

So many countries are ahead of us in so many ways. When will we catch up. The close-minded are dragging us down as they drag their knuckles.

It is a good day, France moves forward and we move a few steps back. Look to Alabama, North Dakota and another state just recently banning or doing almost everything possible to cause the banning of abortions.

Well done, France. There are many reasons why abortion may be considered and for the most part those reasons are good ones. It is no one's choice to make but the parties involved, so unless you are going to provide a safe and loving home for the babies that will otherwise be aborted I suggest you leave the decision up to those parties.

Unfortunately, in the US, women are about to lose the right to an abortion altogether, as well as access to birth control; that is if the right-wing religious fanatics in congress have their way. Noted and shared.

If you don't like abortions don't have one! If you think women get abortions just for laughs or birth control, you are quite a few slices short of a loaf of bread. So many of the backward states want to make it hard for women to get any form of birth control, sex education for teens, or try to guilt women into continuing unwanted pregnancies so they have the child-then the anti abortion folks turn their backs on the mothers and babies if they happen to be poor and need help. Seems like all they care about is they got the kid born-after that, who cares what happens to them. I had a tubal ligation done after I had my child. Unfortunately, at the time I lived in a backward southern state so I had to have my husband's permisson to have the procedure done. Considering it was my body-I didn't feel I should have to go through that nonsense expecially since I was told I wouldn't live through another pregnancy. He didn't want to sign until I informed him either I got clipped or I would clip him with some nice dull dirty grass shears. He signed.

Wow! This is WONDERFUL!
As I keep on & on reminding Care2 members:
I had an abortion while in College. I am GLAD, and have always been GLAD, I had that abortion! I could hardly have finished college otherwise...
My GRANDMOTHER had an abortion. As a young married woman with 3 children {including my mother} that already she had a hard time keeping fed. This was right after WWI. Because my grandmother had this abortion, it helped my MOTHER go to college rather than have to spend her life at a low-paid job to support her family. College is where my mother met my father.
My DAUGHTER had an abortion - the first LEGAL one in our family. I supported this completely {not that it was for me to say!}. She would have been tied to a low-life, trying to get child support....just because as a teen, she made a gross error in judgement. It would have ruined HER life to NOT have an abortion.
Women will ALWAYS have abortions, legal or illegal, paid-for-by-the-State or not.
When abortions are impossible to get, women will try SELF-ABORTING; sometimes successfully, sometimes resulting in permanent injury to themselves, or death.
The old, chancy knitting-needle or coat-hanger abortions.
A fetus is like a human hand or foot - PART of the mother's body. It has no independent "will" or "wish" or "right" to exist. It has no MIND. An acorn is not an oak; an egg is not a chicken.

Now I know, for the first time, the French word for "Abortion"!

See the sign in the picture. "L'avortement".

"C'est un droit"
"C'est la lo!i"

Abortion -
it's a RIGHT
it's the LAW!

n France, any woman who chooses to can have an abortion for free.

As of April 1, the French state covers 100 percent of the costs for 100 percent of terminations.

Previously only girls under 18 could claim the full cost back from social security, while older women would receive between 70 and 80 percent.

The new provision, introduced as one of Socialist President François Hollande's campaign promises in early 2012 and approved in October, is part of a drive to bolster women's reproductive rights.

The reform is designed to help remove the barriers that continue to prevent women exercising their "fundamental right" to decide what happens to their bodies, said Health Minister Marisol Touraine.

The legislation also makes contraception free for 15- to 18-year-olds, who previously had to pay 35 percent of the costs.

At the same time it doubles the social security fee paid to hospitals and clinics that provide abortions, in a bid to encourage more facilities to offer the procedure.

More than 220,000 abortions are performed in France per year, most of them on women aged between 20 and 24.

In a public French hospital, an abortion can cost up to 400 euros ($513), of which women over 18 would previously have had to pay about 50-80 euros ($64-103).

Abortions should be ALWAYS ON DEMAND.

Every single Woman and Girl and Teenager, married or unmarried, "virtuous" or promiscuous, at ANY age, should be THE SOLE PERSON TO DECIDE WHETHER TO CARRY A PREGNANCY INSIDE HER OWN BODY, TO TERM.
Until that is the case, WOMEN WON'T BE TRULY FREE AND EQUAL.

It is MUCH SAFER, to have an abortion under medical conditions, than to CARRY A PREGNANCY TO TERM.

Both Contraception, and Abortion, should be made AS EASY, AS CHEAP {OR FREE!} AND AS CONVENIENT, AS POSSIBLE.
These measures might just possibly Save the Planet from the PLAGUE of Human Over-population...

One thing that particularly impresses me is the inclusion of contraceptives in their laws/policies. If you want to reduce the number of abortions, then make contraceptives affordable. This is borne out by WHO studies.

Canada --- "Abortion in Canada is not limited by criminal law but by the Canada Health Act.[1] While some non-legal obstacles exist, Canada is one of only a few nations with no legal restrictions on abortion.[2][3] Regulations and accessibility vary between provinces.[4]
Early in Canadian history, all abortions were illegal. The Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1968-69 introduced by Pierre Trudeau's Liberal government, legalized abortion as long as a committee of doctors signed off that it was necessary for the physical or mental well-being of the mother. In 1988, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled in R. v. Morgentaler that the existing laws were unconstitutional and struck down the 1969 law. The then governing Progressive Conservatives attempted, but failed, to pass a new abortion law, and since then Canada has had no criminal laws governing the subject and abortion is a decision made by a woman with her doctor. Without legal delays, most abortions are done at a very early stage"

The decision to have an abortion should be between a woman and her doctor, as in Canada.

My body, my decision.

My mother attempted to abort ME, she was too addicted to drugs to go through with it, she spend the abortion money on more drugs and left me to be born addicted to drugs- took a year for me to come down off the stuff, and she didn't want to raise me-
