If they are feral then its obvious they have to eat Does nt take a scientific brain to work this out

Well said Carol!! This is ridiculous, do they print articles every time a flipping lion kills then eats a zebra? Or any animal for that matter! News flash, even a house cat WILL hunt and kill birds and small animals its called INSTINCT and can NOT be helped perhaps we need to STOP looking at the feral cats and START looking at the REAL PROBLEM and thats the losers who have either tossed their cats out or left them behind which is what made the cats become feral in the first place perhaps peole should start first caring for their pets then spaying and neutering them then this wouoldnt even be an issue! You cant blame an animal for doing what comes natural to it to do so is ignorant and wrong!

due to a quirk in the process that long ago domesticated cats they kill for no reason. even well fed cats will kill on average once a day. this isn't about a natural predator and prey situation like lions and zebras but an unnatural predator being released into nature. domesticated cats don't belong outdoors. cats killing wildlife isn't natural and it isn't good for wild species.

as with most of our modern day issues and problems:
- Due to human error -
as stated here, a cat has to eat
it was some human being who let the cat out of the 'bag' or house

the animals of the planet have a food chain
cat eats bird,
and so on
but we want it to be the way 'we want it to be'

and everybody has their own 'want it to be,...'

sometimes we need to supply solutions instead of always finding the faults; that way we could feel encouraged to build a brighter future instead of the 'doom and gloom' which stifles many of our population

(and getting people to agree on "a" particular solution, oh brother, - here we go again, with finding faults,....)

fine and dandy that we care for the animals which could be dying out, but, if we study the eons of life histories, nearly every species dies out or has some kind of fantastic metamorphism

the fact is
nothing remains the same
change is constant

let's do our best to be kind, responsible, reasonable human beings that don't put 'meat eating cats' out to find prey~

we can make this world a better place!
that's what all this energy is about - on care2 and across the globe!
(and sorry that the reality is -> carnivores eat animals)

btw
cat food is made of animal protein, so something 'living' is sacrificed for the diet of the domesticated kitty as well,....

Blame the idiot humans who dumped their pet cats out into the wild in the first place.

Bill K has got it right: 'domesticated cats they kill for no reason. even well fed cats will kill on average once a day. this isn't about a natural predator and prey situation like lions and zebras but an unnatural predator being released into nature. domesticated cats don't belong outdoors. cats killing wildlife isn't natural and it isn't good for wild species.'

And 'cats need to be kept indoors, or at least on a leash when outside'

Florence, Carol and other people who jump to defend the cats, please note again: 'this isn't about a natural predator and prey situation like lions and zebras but an unnatural predator being released into nature.' These cats are not part of the balance of nature. They are destroying the balance of nature. Or if you want this rephrased so as not to blame the cats - the people who release them, or who refuse to face the problem cats cause to wildlife are destroyng the balance of nature!

Now I see they are constructing a fence - good thing! Although the link between feral cats and declining birds seems obvious, people often have to produce statistics to get something done!

Camilla, I forgot to add that instead of being part of the solution, you prefer to be part of the problem...
