A battle near a factory believed to be one of the Syrian regime's main chemical weapons plants shows just how close such weapons could be to falling into al-Qaeda's hands

I don't think as the US is in an austerity mode - taking food and education away from it's youth and willing to displace its elderly and poor that this is any time to think in terms of dealing with any country no matter how vengeful to its own people - we must think in terms of fixing the atrocities our own government is willing to perpetrate on its own citizens rather than helping anyone else - sorry - but this country is in a third world situation - that is self inflicted - and we simply cannot consider involving ourselves in another ill-conceived war - no matter what the "good intentions" may seem to be - I don't trust my country - and I want it to heal itself, before it decides to go into another conflict - it may very well need to consider that the peons may revolt and there may very well be an internal conflict that it must deal with if they don't attend to their country first!

anyone wondering where these weapons came from? i mean, wasn't there a story around years ago that saddam hussein had a cache, which he moved off to syria while un observers were looking the other way?

Hi Hilary :)

There was a story about the initial stockpile being Saddam's weapons. The whole stockpile might also have been manufactured in Syria.

Hi Lee :)
I would normally agree that this is a time for the U.S. to concentrate on domestic affairs, but this is the classic case of a deteriorating problem where an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Keeping powerful weapons out of the hands of its enemies may be an easier and better solution, even in the U.S.'s current state, than trying to deal with them later.

On the other hand, though the theory on which this is based is not validated sufficiently for me to promote policy over it, I have reason to believe that a concentration on foreign affairs and its place in the world might actually be the best thing for the U.S.'s current problems. If you want me to go into the theory, I can.

Worrying. We certainly don't want these deadly weapons falling into the wrong hands.

Not that Mr Assad's hands were the right hands in the first place of course...

Noted. As in the famous song "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" Peter, Paul, and Mary sang "When we ever learn?" When will we ever learn?" The song was talking about having us find ways for us humans to live in peace.

Thank you for the posting Cal.

Propaganda or fact? More involvement in the Middle East? Lets soften up the people first and get into another war, more $$$ for the war mongers and the youth will fight it for the rich and die having a few tin medals pinned to their bodies.
