The war authorization that Congress passed after 9/11 will be needed for at least 10 to 20 more years, and can be used to put the United States military on the ground anywhere, from Syria to the Congo to Boston, military officials argued Thursday.

"Obama War Powers"? These were Bush's war powers for eight years. NOW they have concerns about it? Hmmm...

After all these years NOW the GOP is concerned? WHY?
Why didn't they care before?
Or know before now?

Could it be not only the color of this President's skin but his party?!

Oh hell. YEAH.

After Laura's offensive vitriol - I will only add that yes - our powers have been subverted - not by Obama, but by a host of others preceding him, and I wish I could come to Obama's defense, but all evidence seems to support the fact that neither party is innocent, and there must be new parties that represent the people of the US - thus far we aren't represented as we should be in a democratic society - it's time to get rid of the SCOTuS - ruling on Citizen's United, and bring democracy back to our country - and we need to abhor - nationally any use of torture in our policy - regardless of illegal politics espoused by Lybee and Yoo - who were hired to find torture to be legal -- we have given our country a black eye - and it will take a long time to rectify our sins!

both sides are to blame and the powers need to be taken away. they were put in place by bush but i've noticed obama hasn't done anything to get them removed either. some of the bush laws obama has added to them.
we need to take our country back from both parties. washington has to much power and it needs to stop now.

Thanks for posting, Cal. I'm so glad to see this article....I read a similar one earlier at the Truthout site, so I hope it gets tons of media. Kinda shocked at McCain's comments, (he's usually "front-and-center" at warmongering), and I hope he sticks to them. Barbara Lee has sponsored H.R. 198: "Repeal of Authorization for Use of Military Force." It's in desperate need of co-sponsors. Congress must reinstate its constitutional authority on this.
