Tigers, Orangutans, Rhinos: Sumatra's Big Mammals on the Edge of Extinction

Animals  (tags: endangered, extinction, animals, wildlife, habitat loss, wildanimals, protection, animalwelfare, animaladvocates, environment, humans, habitat )

- 1802 days ago -
Contact between humans and wild animals is increasing disastrously in Sumatra as deforestation, mining and palm oil concessions expand, fragmenting forest habitats and driving animals out of protected areas.

This isn't news, sorry to's been going on for years. However, the sudden BOOM in coconut and palm oil products is accelerating the loss of habitat.

Without captive breeding programs, these animals will be extinct within two decades.

gaher pictures and pertinent information on these animals whenever and wherever you can so that your kids will have some inkling of once was.

Close to extinction in the wild, if bred in captivity endless abuse involving zoos, circuses, canned hunters, collectors, roadside displays (what ever happened to Tony the Tiger and his roadside gas station digs?)

We allow it, support it, own it. Whining and signing doesn't cut it anymore, get real.

This is so sad There is just too many people in the world now and taking everything from the land and animals
Time they got contraception to everyone even if all the west has to chip in They all give overseas aid but maybe they should stipulate that some has to be used for family planning They were saying on the article in care2 that 222 million are denied it so why dont they sort something outThe world will never keep up with feeding the hungry if they dont do something about the ever growing population

Noted thanks

This is tragic, sad and frustrating. More people care about what Kim Kardashian wore than the inevitable extinction of whole species.

The human race is becoming more self-centered and self-absorbed even as we are, or should be, more globally aware.

I hope God has taken me away before all of them are gone - what are we doing to our earth and its animals. It always takes me back to Michael Jackson's Earth Song video - it is so sad but so very true.
