Williston North Dakota has won some infamy in recent years. It's at the center of an oil boom that's likely to make the United States a net exporter of fossil fuels in just a few short years, something that was unthinkable as recently as half a decade ago

Josh Fox (Gasland, Gasland 2) was a guest on Real Time with Bill Maher this week. Some republican pollster declared herself as mother of four in support of Fracking. Most mothers would consider any possible threat to their children's health, welfare and future to be more important than political talking points. Her main point being that Fracking offers jobs. News Flash, so does alternative energy.

Cal,,,,,what an article.........This should be read by every Governor in America......and should then be distributed to all the state's employees......Well written!!!! coming from a small town ...I smelled the acrid air....and saw many a flipped cigarettes on the ground. The town's people are just a'sitting and a'talking and aint a'doing a darn thing!!!!!! That is just what happened here.....People were happy to be working...and all the while they were signing the death certificate of their progeny....We never learn!!!!!!!!

A very interesting read - left me wondering what happens in California if there is an earthquake where fracking is going on .... If only as much time and effort were invested in developing alternative energy, we'd all be a lot healthier & safer!

I can't imagine any sane person or honest politician (yes, there are some) allowing fracking to even be allowed, much less pushed.

We are allowing the Big Oil and Gas Companies I have always thoughts ones principals was something to be proud of, but today's world. People are willing to go along with anything as long as they think it will serve self. Jobs jobs my question is this is it worth it even thought it more than likely cause many health problems in your life and possible your children born with a cease that doctors have no ideal what it is. How do you answer the question am I responsible could I have made a difference if I had fought against the poisrn that's now in our drinking water and air, sewing the Companies may help someone but not you and if it do not for long. Extracting oil and gas from rocks and sand using water that is filled with chemical and left just standing to mix into drinking water if it flood or just by standing there is a danger to animals who do not know not toxic the oil wells bellowing out chemicals into the air that is breathed into your lungs. How 's that job coming?

I hate the fracking argument that the water used in fracking doesn't get into the water table- of course that pollution will eventually find it's way into the water supply!

When I think about what we are trading for jobs it scares me as I have a new Great Grandson who will grow up if he's very lucky in a very desolate world. I live in Maine and we have a Governor who wants to reverse a pipeline that is old and totally incapable of handling the dirty tar sands oil from Canada. This pipeline goes through lakes that contain most of the fresh water for the North East. I hope we wake up and realize we are trading the future of our planet for jobs that allow a very few to add to their billions of dollars/euro/yen or what ever.

Climate change is a huge cost. We could create "green" jobs.
