Its basically a dead planet, she added. We give it another 200 years, tops.

Well, that's about the only thing they got wrong. That and us being tasty. It may take as long as 400 years. But if they give it 30 or 40,000 years, the planet will have cleansed and healed itself. There won't be any tasty homo sapiens, but it should be fertile for other kinds of life again by then.
