Before Xstrata it was MIM has had a Lead smelter for decades..and I mean decades..the workers were tested for lead poisoning and if their levels were high, they would go to another part of the mine or get paid time-off..the town was formed around these "stacks"..and if the lead levels where high in the atmosphere (affect townspeople) they would stop smelting..this is old news especially to the population of Mt Isa..not saying it's right..just saying that this is how it has been for a very long..long..time...

Uncaring corporations care only for the maximum profit and minimal safety to assist their bottom line as the CEOs sleep cozy while dreaming of even more profit. Children at risk or older people matter not, so none of this is surprising. Just another unspoken truth of the greed of these businesses.
