Singapore's Pollutant Standards Index hit the highest level on record Friday as "haze" driven by fires burning across plantations, peatlands, and forest areas continued to rage across Sumatra.

They're reaping what they've sown.

Of course, so are all the animals driven to extinction through the destruction of rain forest.

They have to sit through this for the duration of the dry season, until the rainy season arrives in Januari for crying out loud!

Every now and then I give a donation to the Sumatran Orangutan Society to grow native fruit trees on land bought back from palm plantations. I hope it's not those fruit trees burning. I guess the oil from the palm trees would burn very well and cause more smoke.
People are either stupid or irresponsible or both.

I won't buy anything with palm oil in it. Labelling should be more precise, just saying 'vegetable oil' is not good enough. Palm oil is full of bad cholesterol and is bad for human health.

Big business just don't get "IT". You can make all the money you want but without clean air and water none of that matters. I've heard tales that some money barons are buying up all the subterranean water rights so they can rule the world. We stay on this course and we'll all be in a world of hurtin. Why can't they see what is more important than anything and that's air, water and food. All should be held as sacred. Not how much stuff you own.

Only when the city dwellers, who have lost contact with the natural world . are negatively effected will they complain about this rape of the earth.

Please BOYCOTT PALM OIL! (Nutella, chocolate hazelnut spread, International Delight coffee creamer, many margarines and microwave popcorn, "yogurt" covered snacks, "natural no-stir" peanut butter, many brands of instant ramen noodles...- all contain palm oil.) If we stop buying it, they will stop destroying the rain forest for oil palm plantations....

This is just plain crazy to do this to our planet. Will it never end? What has to happen to stop this madness?

I'll support this theory if it will stop the destruction of our forests and orangutans. I refuse to buy anything that has the word 'palm' in it. I will put it back on the shelf.
