Doctors working for the California prison system illegally sterilized 148 female inmates without required state approvals between 2006 and 2010,100 additional women may have been coerced into undergoing tubal ligation surgeries dating back to 1997

May I mention that DEMOCRATS were NOT in power during this timeframe? A certain AHNOLD was Governor then.

So...what point are you trying to make, John?

Proof that governments must be monitored to ensure protections for the people. Sad that we have peolpe in this country that think that their behavior is OK. We need to elect people to public office that believe that they need to protect ALL people and their rights. We need to stop sending bigots to Congress and to the State Legislatures. In the next election, WE need to ensure that humand and civil rights becomes a major topic for the candiddates. It is OUR responsibility to elect our representatives carefully.

Do we really want women in prison having babies?

The headline makes it sound as if the women were "forced" ... as in held down and sterilized as they fought against it. But the story says "coerced". There is a difference, although right when a woman is having a baby and is sedated isn't the best time to talk about her getting a tubal ligation. I just keep posting at most of the stories about America ... nothing seems to be surprising me anymore about this country. Everything I was brought up to believe about it appears to have been a lie.

Noted. My head is spinning....ban abortions and birth control---but sterilization is OK? Just when you think you've heard it all...

Apparently, I can't say which comment I truly adored, but why didn't they go after the Men as well??? They take care of the animals in the Shelter, I would have to know the crime...I do agree it is wrong! Seems like so many people in prisons get more rights than victims period...Food, health care and Oops free birth control...just one less problem for tax payers. Just my humble opinion!

I doubt that CA is alone in doing this. Supposedly eugenics sterilization laws were passed in the 70's banning sterilization. However there was 32 states participating in sterilizing those deemed mentally or genetically unfit, dating back to the 20's. Perhaps they were coerced perhaps someone just changed their mind after the fact.
Further investigation is needed
