Shaving ones head & wearing robes does not make one a monk.
He's going against The Buddha's teaching.

He is a hypocrite and just like any extremist he is playing the game for his cause not for the cause he claims

Hurt and angry people like to lash out. Sad.

I think the reason all religions breed extremists, Jamie is because the leaders of those religions use the rules of the religion to gain power and money. There may be exceptions but I don't know of any.

I think I should add that not all leaders of religion are bad. Not all groups within that religion breed extremists.

Buddhism, to me, is a philosophy. Many consider it a religion but that doesn't make it one.

But then of course, these days, many, many groups of Christians say that Christianity is not a religion,
Sure looks like one to me!

"Wirathu, who once referred to himself as "the Burmese bin Laden," has been accused of fanning religious tensions between Buddhists and Muslims in Myanmar, which is also known as Burma."

Buddhists advocate peace, but aren't they the monks who also train in martial arts?? They do know how to fight, don't they?? For how many decades have the Buddhists been persecuted by China?
Then there are the Muslim minority - sometimes when you move into a new place, you have to fight for your place there. Not right, but can be a fact of life in some places.

Religions do not create extremists. Lust for power and control does.

Wirathu is a monk in name only. He is an extremist who has forsaken Buddhist teachings. The XIV Dalai Lama had his 78th birthday 06 July 2013 and expressed his birthday wish --- compassion. In this VIDEO , he is talking about the importance of compassion as the source of a happy life. Wirathu is an apple that fell far from the tree.

If we all practised compassion, there could be no extremists.

Noted. Wirathu is sadly not an extremist on his own, he has many followers. So a lot more Buddhist don't live by the teaching. This bombing incident will just lead to more violence in Myanmar.
