An estimated 50,000 homeless dogs are taking up residence in vacant buildings, roaming the streets in packs in search of food and water, or living alone, chained to their former home in a desperate attempt by the owner to protect their property in a city

This is terrible. It needs media attention desperately. Where are all the rescue groups?? How about spaying the female pooches to start...shocking really that people can go about their lives after discarding these poor dogs as trash. Shame on you Detroit. Thx Cal

Serious doubt that the human population dwindles anywhere.

Send the dwindle West, and make the dwindle grow.

Wake up Detroit.....invest 20,000 in spaying and neutering, and you can reclaim the city you have been ignoring.

OMG this made me throw up. Now I can barely type three tears. It is heartbreaking, gut wrenching and horrendous. Hush Carlisle is my hero. I will be emailing the major of Detroit and Hush to personally thank him for his efforts.
Wake up Detroit stop this iinsanity

This is just unthinkable. Thank God for Hush Carlisle and the other good people of Detroit who are trying so hard to help these poor animals. And what about the cats? Thank you, Cal. Shared.

I blame the authorities in Detroit for letting the situation get so bad What is wrong with them Now most of the dogs will lose their lives How awful Shame on them for not doing more in the beginning Poor animals there Totally heartless uncaring humans again They should spend out and make a shelter for them there or at least somewhere to give them food and water

They better do something about all the stray dogs, or else they will breed, mutliply, and devour all of the food from the trash. Once this food is depleted, they will starve and die in large numbers.

This is a disaster literally breeding before their eyes. These dogs will become very very dangerous. It stinks because they are at the mercy of humans but we have failed them. If something is not done on a large scale to help these desperate dogs will eventually kill a human. It is unfortunate that it will probably take such a tragedy for those with resources and power to pay attention.

noted and shared. Detroit is in terrible condition with the recent bankruptcy of the city, people are extremely desperate not knowing what will happen next. There's no work for many and so they are fleeing in attempt to survive. This is very misfortunate for the poor dogs, they are being destroyed healthy or not because they can't carry the overflow. This is so sad for what used to be a vibrant city with lots of potential. I pray that help arrives soon for these dogs, what a waste.

I have been worried sick about the animals in Detroit for the past 3 years or so. I try to donate to their local shelters and rescues as they of all places surely need help.

It's not just dogs that are left but also cats. The cats can't survive these potentially feral dogs. Such a sad commentary on the greed of Detroit officials - and by extension the state of Michigan's officials. Detroit is a wasteland...Thank you and I hope someone steps in and stops this madness.

The only main reason why there are stray animals, is that humans are the cause of this problem.

Apparently it is not only in Asia there is neglect of animals.

This is so horrible for these innocent lives and it isn't the animals fault it is a people problem. They don't get their pets spayed or neutered, they decide they don't want them and just dump them off somewhere. And sadly these precious lives pay the price at the hands of the ones that were supposed to care and love them. This is so sad for these dogs and cats and something needs to be done now to help these poor helpless and homeless animals. Detroit needs help now to fix and stop this problem before it gets more out of control. How sad for these animals.

This problem is overwhelming. Having said that, however, believe ARC could coordinate other like-minded groups to at least make an attempt.
