Shoddy, narrow minded & one sided reporting.
If any one is interested in what's going on in Southern Thailand, Google it.

CNN..." the Muslim insurgency in the southern provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Satun and Songkhla has emerged with a clear goal: the creation of a separate Muslim state for the region's 1.8 million Muslim ethnic Malays."

+++++++++++++++++ Nothing new there.

Wall St. Journal...." a violent conflict in southern Thailand appears to be entering a dangerous new phase as Islamist insurgents expand their attacks against local Buddhists to include outsiders entering the Muslim-majority region."

++++++++++++++++ Nothing new there.

If you take a look at that area, and what places the Muslims hold, an argument could be made for a huge Isalmic state, as large as China...especially if they gain back their hold on Syria. Now they seem to want to expand into Asia - maybe working their way back to Iran, through Iraq...How does Pakistan sit as far as Muslims...Interesting hypothesis.

Buddhists have the guts to push back against Islamic tyranny. This is a GOOD thing.

The world cries for help and protection against the hatred of Islam for the non-Muslim. Few heed the call. Muslims deserve to be pushed far, far back.

Very bad comment, this crime was caused by a man not a religion. The final comment about women was rude and unfounded.

I'm shocked by the ignorance of some comments here and the way some stop reading as soon as the words "Muslim" or "Islam" show up and let prejudice kick in.

"Most Muslims in the region belong to a largely destitute and stateless ethnicity known as Rohingya;"
These people have been in Myanmar for a very long time and are a mild fraction within Islam. They have been open to persecution because they are a minority group even within their own religion and have nowhere else to go. And the tactics used to get the last ones out of the country (most of them are already in refugee camps across the border with Thailand) are the same always. Heat up the anger of the masses with any allegations you can think of and these go on a killing-spree. And the Buddhists are given free reign because most react as some here, throw all Muslims, no matter what particular fraction they belong to, all on the big heap of terrorists and fanatics.

Until now, most of them were just quietly dying away in the refugee/prison camps across the border, and the rest tried to live their meagre existence in Myanmar, but soon they will join the insurgents from Malaysia and Thailand Pam talks about, if they will have them.

I had expected the members of Care2 to be able to make the distinction between these groups.

There are a lot more complex than that, both in Burma and Thailand. I shall try to write later. I wonder why so many people became strange when they see the words 'Muslims' or Islam'?
I myself do not agree with so many of their principles e.g. women rights and many, but, to go beyond bias, that make me more careful to criticize them. Few days ago, I read comments on Egypt, I felt so sad that many members here urged killing, crush 'the Islam', etc. Morsi came from election, he got majority he was legistimised with the principle you all praise. So what happen? I began to wonder more and more where am I? Care2 is heaven or just other hell?
I don't think any Islamist state will survive easily in the world now, they will have to adapt a lot.

There in Burma, the junta's government close its eye, let monks and Buddhists kill, rape and burn down Rohinya--people without their own land to live. No they won't join anybody to fight for Islamist state in the South Thailand (just near my hometown here), they desperately want to go 3th country but no one wants them yet. I will write more about these issues.

Thank you, SJ J., I would very much appreciate more information on these issues from someone who lives in the region.

agree with AeMaeChi, very bad report written by a one sided "dhimmi" who do not know the history of Islam and totally forget the 21492 terrorists attacks launched by islamists since 9/11 in Thailand and Burma and many other non muslims countries around the world.
This "reporter" seems also to ignore the goal of imposing the Sharia and the Califate on the world by thousands of islamists around the world, in the Philippines or in Thailand

i'm glad the buddists are starting to push back. muslims have been killing, raping and burning buddists and their sites for ages. it's time to stop the take over by muslims. their goal is the world and our stupid governments are helping them move in.

The bombings, murderous attacks on citizens; desecration of non Muslim institutions and a general proliferation of terrorism for over the last three years and you have the nerve to post such a title? How would you feel if it were your family?
