Richard Trumka, head of the AFL-CIO, says Obamacare is largely a positive step. He is concerned about reports that some employers are cutting workers' hours to avoid having to offer health insurance.

"Warnings that employers are cutting workers' hours to avoid having to offer health insurance:

"That is obviously something that no one intended ... that is something that needs to be addressed."

Well, obviously on most issues I am going to be in step with labor. But it puzzles me that the leader of this august group is only just now noticing this. It did not begin with the HCA. It began with UPS 40 years ago and has been continued by company after company ever since. The worst of the lot is Walmart which pays so little its employees are a net drain on local economies upon which they have to rely for food assistance and health care because Walmart doesn't hire full time workers so they don't have to pay benefits. This is not new, how a union leader could possibly think it is, well, anyone I follow had better do his/her homework better than that is all I can say to that.

Kind of Agree with Gene, except I do remember a consulting study that this would happen and was criticize by nearly everyone. Anyway, the act clearly sets out a penalty that is certain to mean that this will happen more often.

As always, the decent employers will do the right thing - the scum bags will use this as an excuse. That leaves it up to us, the consumers, to support the decent employers and their businesses and avoid the scum bags.
