The Pentagon's Africa Command will tell you there's one military base on the entire continent. Don't believe them.

WOW!! This is one eye opening article. Hey, if you need a job, looks like there are great possibilities for "private contractors for movement of the department of defense... building facilities for US allies or infrastructure for the locals". Christ on a Crutch, what about OUR facilities and infrastructure????? Your tax dollars at shadowy work.

I am not surprised at all. The world is out of control and we put our assets to control it instead of taking care of ourselves.

Noted w/thanks for posting, Cal. I will repeat Sue H.'s "WOW!"....and got me to wondering if this whole mess with Syria is overshadowing the nefarious and expensive maneuvering in Africa. All of us can complain about this to our Congress critters.....the excess of our tax dollars being spent on foreign matters when we are cutting programs to the impoverished and children here. Our own infrastructure is crumbling, too....but where's our money for that?! It's also a great argument when the "debt ceiling" argument comes up next--very soon.

So? African troops are very poorly trained. They are not ranked highly. The terrorists have had easy times. So who is going to do the training? Be realistic. Yes the French had to send regulars and if you watch VICE's report it is clear how badly trained those troops were. China has people there too. This really is misleading these are no US bases. more an outreach. Someone needs a course in modern low intensity warfare.

"the Pentagon is increasingly engaged in shadowy operations whose details emerge piecemeal and are rarely examined in a comprehensive way. Nowhere is this truer than in Africa. To the media and the American people, officials insist the US military is engaged in small-scale, innocuous operations there. Out of public earshot, officers running America's secret wars say: "Africa is the battlefield of tomorrow, today."

"Shadowy" things going on indeed. Any eye-opener to me.

Thanks Cal.
