Republicans know that holding the nation's debt limit hostage in a standoff with Democrats over spending carries major risks to the economy, but they say they will do it anyway.

I just tried to post this!

WHY aren't MORE people PISSED off at the Republicans and their game playing, their lies, and their BS?!!!
How much more damage are they going to be able to get away with before the majority of Americans say "ENOUGH ALREADY! The 1% will NOT rule the 99%!!"
I get SO frustrated; so many people do not bother with FACTS. They are happy to listen to hate, lies, fear mongering, and propaganda...people are suffering and corporations are taking over! WAKE THE HELL UP ALREADY!!!

Thanks Cal...I'm going to step outside for a few minutes and look at the changing leaves, the flowers, and take some much needed DEEP breaths!

The rabid Right isn't figuring anything out except how to turn a problem into a disaster. I agree with Laura H; why aren't more people mad? Why are they still electing these yoyo's? People vote against their best interests all the time, and haven't a clue why things just get worse. I'm at a loss....

In one federal election back in the 1990;s, Canadians got so annoyed at the Con-servative party that they went from some 140 seats in the federal Parliament two a mere two seats. May the republi-can't party meet with a similar fate...unbelievable what the tea party and republi-cant's are doing!

Dale O - how I wish that would happen the whole world over! Heaven!
I must say that my reaction to the headline was to say 'Well of course they will - they will damage America and its people for decades and hundreds of years just to get their own way and to spite President Obama!'. We must keep refuting their lies - they have a constant habit of doing vile things then (like a two year old) blaming the Democrats for what they just did!

The Republcon congress wants one thing, and one thing only; to ruin Obama. It's almost as if they have a collective mind with just one goal. Ruin everything good that comes from the Obama administration. I think the only thing that could get them to work, is to take away their wages when they do not preform in the public behave, as they were elected to do.
pam w. is right we need to Remember in November.

Obama says he will not cave to these despicable demands and I hope he stands his ground. The debt, if that were the concern of these wackos, is cut by half. Holding things hostage or else is the behavior of bullies. Maybe we will get lucky, they will hold their breath till they turn blue. Though, I'm not sure blue and orange make a good fashion statement.

Here is the wish list or what the republicans are demanding:

1. Approve of the Keystone XL oil pipeline.

2. Weaken the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

3. Delay implementation of Obamacare for one year.

4. Cut $120 billion from federal health programs over the next decade (includes Medicare)

5. Increase offshore oil drilling and energy production on federal lands.

6. Block federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions.

7. Restrict most forms of federal industry regulation.

Republicans increased the debt ceiling 19 times during the presidency of George W. Bush, raising the nationís limit by nearly $4 trillion.

Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.

Franklin D. Roosevelt

If Franklin D. Roosevelt is right about American Voters power then surely 99% will vote to rid ourselves of radical Tea Party Rebubs that repeat their threats to shut down government. VOTE VOTE VOTE.

I have been working on and with politics for many years so therefore I feel justified in saying "this is the worst political climate I have ever seen".The Republicans are so worried about offending the Tea Party that they are willing to throw the American people under the bus. They had absolutely no problem with GWB and their icon, Ronald Reagan when they spent money with no regard to anything. People are depending on the Affordable Care Act to be able to get health insurance. This is a step forward. We are the only industrialized nation that doesn't have healthcare. This planet is dying because of carelessness such as non regulation of greenhouse gas emissions. All industries should be regulated. I would especially suggest that they make Wall Street accountable for their actions.
This country because of people who don't care is on a slippery slope and if the GOP continues to play their games, we could in fact become a third world country. Please remember this when you vote in 2014 because most of these clowns are up for re-election.
By the way, any oil that would be generated by the Keystone Pipe line would not be used in this country. It is off to foreign lands. These clowns would bury themselves alive to prove they could handle the shovel.
Each one of you should watch your congress person's voting record on issues that affect this country and if you don't like the way they are voting, REPLACE THEM IN 2014.

I'm sick and tired of those useless tools threatening this kind of crap every time we turn around. It's gotten to a point where we're constantly on a roller coaster ride white knuckling through the fear that our rating is going to go or that we're headed back into another deep recession maybe a depression or the threat of shutting the government down. Those SOB's deserve to be thrown out of office like the lazy no-good bums they are. If they are too stupid and lazy to work together then have got to get rid of them. We've got a country to run and we cannot afford this kind of behavior anymore. The Repulithugs need to get over that a black man is now the President. GET RID OF THOSE IDIOTS! The American people need to remember that this is our country and get radical. The French government is scared of the people. WE NEED TO MAKE OUR GOVERNMENT FEAR US. THEY WORK FOR US - WE ARE NOT THEIR SUBJECTS AND I CANNOT BELIEVE WE ARE MORE THAN WILLING TO TURN THIS COUNTRY OVER TO THE CORPORATIONS WITHOUT A FIGHT.

We're already under the bus, Elle. We are seeing a brain washing of a few generations of karl Rove, nazi republicans, come to a head. It was always coming to this. It will get worse.

Just another little food for thought. While the GOP/Tea Party are trying to end the Affordable Care Act, did you know that they voted themselves health care for tax payers expense of course. These people do not live in the real world. Hold them accountable!! It is certainly within the power of each and every one who will go to the polls and change things. Help on your city, state, whatever to get out the vote. That is the only way we are going to get rid of the trouble makers.
