A well written piece on what seems to be a must read book. My grand parents both were fortunate that they came to the US just at the turn of the century. One from a small village in Romania the village and all records were completely destroyed. The other from Austria, all past birth records and their community was leveled to the ground. There isn't much left that could be revealed that would not be accepted as one more truth to surface.

Yes...this is dreadful but shouldn't surprise anyone who reads history.

This is not new news. I remember that Poles (non-Jews) would be persecuted, just like the Jews, if they did not reveal their Jewish neighbors or any one they knew to be hiding, or anyone hiding a Jewish family, etc..

This I knew back in the '40's.

Please note: ďAt a certain point, you see that torture and extermination becomes normal and is getting condoned by the authorities. The Jews were perceived by manyónot by allóas no longer entirely human. Once you dehumanize someone, everything becomes much more easy.Ē

there is nothing new in this it has been known for many years that a large section of the Polish people were anti Semitic and actively engaged with the Nazis to exterminate the Jews. The same thing happened in other countries as well Hungry,Romania ,Bulgaria ,Vichy France and the Balkan States and,Croatia to mention but just a few. Here in the UK Sir Oswald Mosley founded his Fascist party the Black Shirts which it is said attracted a 100,000 members. This party was openly anti Semitic and preach against and demonized the Jews.If Hitler had won the war I have no doubt that the Jews in Great Britain would have suffered the same fate If you doubt this look at the participation of the Channel Island's in the persecution of their Jews during the German occupation the only part of the UK to be occupied by Germany during the war. If you dare to mention this here in the UK you are met by complete denial and horror that such an event could happen here.History proves the opposite.

I think it was prevalent in most countries, think of the Voyage of St. Louis, and how no one said come to the USA.

Very biased article.... Many tragic episodes happened during IIWW, not only in Poland and not only to Jews. But only Jews still accuse Poles in obsessive and unfair way. I wonder why...
