Reforms to the programs coming from Republicans probably will mean some cuts, but "reform" and "cutting benefits" are not the same thing in this context. There are other options as well, which would cut spending without cutting benefits. A compromise should be possible.

For example, tying benefits to performance vocational training or other employment-promoting programs, or even just improving access to those programs, may help to cut the number of people in need, allowing for lower spending without hurting anyone. That was the idea behind the initiative a while back to tie some benefits to children's academic performance, to break generational poverty and reduce, in the long-run, spending while actually helping the recipients. I don't think that one was well thought-through, but the general strategy of getting people off welfare should be acceptable to both parties as long as they don't turn it into a fight.

Not American, so could not sign.
Here is an opportunity to donate in order to get the tea party out of Congress:

Approval for Republicans has dropped dramatically in the polls right now and it is important that the Democrats can reinforce this. Even the most Fox News and Rush Limbough hypnotized citizens must have doubts right now and they would be more open to the voices of reason.
Please donate. and save the world and America.

If Obama offers them a small decrease in warned entitlements in exchange for a tax increase on the 1%, Republicans will slither away from the table.

I reported spammer. There better be hell to raise. People have worked since the ages of 16 and 17 for this and it isn't a hand out. This was hard earned money set aside for retirement years or in case of disability. I hope the Elders go after them with walkers and wheelchairs and knock some sense into their heads with their canes.

I do not get it. HOW can the Greed Old Politicians(GOP) think that SS is money they can touch? This money is separate from governmental revenues to be spent in running the country. This is money that I and my employers have put into trust for when I retire. This is not the government's money. It is MINE!!!!!

Isn't it ironic and very pathetic that the people who have the greatest socialized health care in the world, the people who only have to work a tiny amount, a partial term as a congress person, are the ones who are hell bent on making sure none of the rest of us have reasonable health care? What a sorry, greedy, arrogant, bunch they are, and stupid too for not being able to see the long term effects that their childish, defeatist, incredibly stupid, actions are currently, and will eventually bring about in an even greater manifestation!

Unless those idiots in The GOP want to be responsible for paying my bills for living, they had better keep their mitts where they belong, in their pockets. There's no room for them anywhere else, because their heads are taking up all the other space.
