A court is weighing the interests of mining companies - key to Australia's economic growth for two decades - against those of small communities that are concerned about environmental impacts.

Noted thanks Cal. Lets see how things go. Australians do know how to fight for their rights and are quite prepared to have a go.

When an industry that huge has that kind of impact on the economy, it can be a tough battle. Let's keep watching and see where we can help.

True enough that we need to harvest the resources in order to make goods and those companies' economic impact is huge. The tragedy occurs when the chemicals and byproducts contaminate the surrounding environment in various ways so that it becomes unusable for other enterprises. If only these firms would utilize the most modern technologies in order to reduce their footprint and clean up any mess properly. I know that's wishful thinking on my part but I can dream can't I?
