This moron must be gagging every day. We have many interracial families and most people do not even notice them. Two people love one another, marry and have a family. Too bad we can not have a petition to fire his butt.

thx Cal, done ! Adding this one-going a bit further..
Tell The WaPo: Fire Richard Cohen

Your wish is my command, Kit ! :)

" In July, he wrote a column justifying the racial profiling that led to the murder of unarmed Trayvon Martin. In September, he blamed Miley Cyrus and the MTV Video Music Awards for "so-called Steubenville rape," adding that the issue in Steubenville was less about criminality and more about "decency."

Now he's gone too far--way, way too far--again "

This kind of blatant racism and hate/fear of 'the different' makes me sick. He needs to just get the **** over it already. He needs to apologize IN WRITING and in THE WAPO for ALL to see and then still be fired because he is NOT a journalist, but merely just another upright, bi-pedal POS who needs to be drop-kicked into the 21st century.

Huffington post had this article in it, i was stunned! Still in shock that it came out on Washington post, but the main point is, the man who won the Boston Mayor position. What a happy moment. Obviously it is a jealously issue, the man well deserves his place as Mayor, with a beautiful wife and wonderful family! Shine on Mayor Bezo's! also the Editor of the Washington Post needs his A$$ kicked for allowing that to get posted too!

"To cultural conservatives, this doesnít look like their country at all."

This isn't a new sentiment. I read an article somewhere a while back that talked about this. People were quoted as saying that if America ever became less than half white, it would no longer BE America. Not to them. But that is the extremist fringe of the right wing. Fortunately they are dying off quickly. The percentage of white voters as a part of the national electorate has been dropping by 1-2% per year since 1990. Half of the 5 and under children in this country are not white. By 2043 it is forecasted that less than 50% of our countries population will be of color. This is a good thing. It is happening and the rantings and ratings of the frothy few on the right wing can't stop it. America has always called itself the great melting pot but until recent times, that melting pot was meant for white caucasians. That has changed and changed forever.

What these cultural conservatives fail to understand is that America is and always has been a beacon of freedom. People do not come here to make it the place they left. They come here for the culture of the United States, equality of opportunity, equality of the genders, equality of races. They are as American as any other including those who first stole this land from the original Americans. I wonder what the new America will look like. What its policies might be. How they might change with the added input of people who understand inequality and racism in ways "cultural conservatives" never will. I see a bright future for this country in that regard. If cultural conservatives wish to leave, well, bye. We'll be the better without you and your gag reflex. In fact all of your reflexes which are to protect the upper crust, the 1%, the white at all costs. That simply is not the future of America. I am pleased that Arizona and Texas will likely be the first two states to find whites in the minority. I don't care how they gerrymander their districts, and try they will, they simply are fighting a losing battle, they cannot possible win. When America is no longer a white majority nation, it will still BE America, and the words on the Statue of Liberty still true. Cultural conservatives would do well to reread them. Because they are still true and they include far more than Caucasians. They are our past, our present and our future, cultural conservative gagging notwithstanding.

It is a sonnet written by Emma Lazarus in 1883.

"Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

The Washingtopn Post is far from a conservative paper- that's what makes this editoral even more of a surprise.

Barbara T (431)

I gag when I see such blatant Racism.

This guy, knowingly, wasn't "reporting facts" about how Americans really feel -
he was using his Editorial to TRY TO MAKE US FEEL THAT WAY.
That is how the Media writers for the 1%, "subtly" try to INFLUENCE PUBLIC OPINION.

THAT is why he used such a STRONG word as "GAG". We have an UNCONSCIOUS, VISCERAL REACTION to such PHYSICAL words.
It cuts out thinking and goes straight for the Gut. [Yes, I know... pun intended.]
Unthinking people will forever associate the Mayor, and Interracial couples, after reading this, with a slight, maybe VERY slight, queasiness..... That is how vicious, underhanded Propaganda, WORKS.
It creates a "subtle" miasma, or fog, or atmosphere....

Will counteract the INTENDED EFFECT...

Barbara T (431)
Thursday November 14, 2013, 2:43 pm
I frankly don't know the history of the Washington Post.
Some people here, must know it much better than I do.
I am just speaking off the top of my head...

But, if the Washington Post was a formerly Liberal Paper -
and it was bought by some Billionaires...
They {the 1%} could just be using Richard Cohen as a STALKING HORSE -
to introduce his Racism, Sexism, etc. that fits the agenda of the new owners?!?
and the paper will gradually turn that way more & more...

I signed the Petition to have him fired, but, IF I AM RIGHT IN WHAT I AM SAYING -
Richard Cohen will be REWARDED for his remarks, and be guaranteed his job, as long as he
No more Free Press, no more even moderately Liberal Press.....!

There is a REASON for these things. They are NOT "senseless" as they appear to us to be...

Wow, how can so many people clearly misunderstand an article. Amazing. This is not an attack on interracial couples, this is an attack on "conventional" people. Bet y'all wouldn't even blink an eye if you actually understood what this dimwit is really saying. It's racist all right, against whites would be my guess. He doesn't come right out and say it, but I would guess he is referring more to white conventional people than black conventional people. Just too funny to read these misguided rants.
