The Obama-supported State Secret Bill criminalizes investigative journalism and equates terrorism with 'imposing one's opinions.'

Noted. Thanks, Cal. Well, that is just a shame! So many were happy to jump on the "export our democracy" bandwagon during the Bush regime. Now, we're exporting our sneaky & diabolical "intelligence" dictates.

While governments should be scrutinised and held accountable for infringements of civil rights, balancing democratic rights with national security needs is difficult for most governments. Given China's growing confidence and bellicose posturing over territorial claims, Japan has reason to be concerned for its national security.

Thanks Cal for this very interesting article..it will be interesting how this plays out..the US is expanding it's Naval Base in Darwin, Australia. China brought out it's latest war ship. US/Japan military exercises flying over disputed islands..the US allowing Japan to build up an army. Oil near those islands, Arctic ice melting..bonus for a new shipping channel....North Korea, China and Russia are neighbours and allies..then you have South Korea, Japan and Australia as allies of the US...uuummmmm

The Chinese have list of long term issues with Japan regarding the war which started in the 1930s and brought about the Nanking massacre which killed more 300,000 civilians this massacre and brutality even brought protest's fro Hitler. They also enslaved the Koreans and brutalized and murdered a enslaved the people for which they still refuse to acknowledge and apologize for.If Japan receives a bloody nose it will serve them right.

THIS MUZZLING EFFECT MUST BE "CATCHY". THE SOUTH AFRICAN GOVERNMENT RECENTLY PASSED "THE SECRECY BILL". WONDER WHAT THESE MORONS ARE CONNIVING. THESE IDIOTS WERE VOTED IN BY US BUT NOW HAVE THE SHEER NERVE TO "SHUT US ALL UP". SELF APPOINTED AUTHORITARIAN DICTATORSHIPS. THEY ALL MUST BE VOTED OUT & KICKED AS FAR AS POSSIBLE!

So true Rehana.. You can change the Government but that doesn't mean they will change the ACT even if they promise to..America is a perfect example of that....Governments need these ACT's to protect their wrong-doings and not vice versa.
