Infinito Gold, a Canadian mining company, just slapped Costa Rica with a $1 billion lawsuit because the nation decided to protect its rainforests rather than host an open-pit gold mine.

How fabulous! A country that stands up to protect the environment. I say, let's spend our tourist dollars there and support their brave choice!

Costa Rica is one of the nicest beautiful countries in the world. Leave that country alone to flourish. These Canadian greedy corporates are panting & running after Costa rica is unacceptable.

Um, gold or rainforest?

Let's see what can gold do?
It takes an awful lot of resources to extract & process, in the meantime causing environmental degradation, it can be used to guarantee the value of a currency, buy things and act as a store of value, but most of the time it sits in a vault gathering dust.

What can rainforest do?
It is at least a net-neutral, if not a net-positive in terms of impact on the environment. It uses carbon dioxide and produces oxygen. It conserves and protects the environment. It harbours and provides shelter to a huge range of flora and fauna. It is a complex, diverse, unique eco-system. It represents an irreplaceable natural environment. It has potential to generate ongoing and limitless income for Costa Rica via eco-tourism...

In this comparison, surely the benefits of one far outweighs the other. Surely the rainforest wins hands down!
