When I first moved to Canada in 1978, the Alberta Oil Sands project was in its infancy - still on the drawing boards so as to speak. The Canadian Government promoted this project as Canada's best option to stop its dependency on foreign oil. The Oil Sands were promoted as "environmentally friendly" with none of the pollution associated with traditional oil drilling!

In Cal's article link - it mentions a film by Peter Mettler - Petropolis, 12 minutes of which will be played at Neil Young's concert. If you are unaware what the Albera Oil Sands project looks like, go to this Youtube link to see a minute and a half of Peter Mettlers movie...then you'll know just what a disaster this is for the planet!

Petropolis Trailer

This is a project that has failed environmentally, failed politically and failed socially. The Canadian Government however, sees fit to expand this project even further with pipelines, more ecocide, more social disruption and for what? So Canada can say its not dependent on foreign oil?

If you have 25 minutes spare... watch this documentary on the Alberta Oil Sands and just what this project means to wildlife, the Native Indians, and ordinary people... who live around these oil sands.

If you have another 25 minutes - you can see the conclusion
To the Last Drop: Canada's Dirty Oil Sands - Part 2

The Alberta Oil Sands (and the Keystone Pipeline) are nothing new now... people shrug when they read about them. But, make no mistake - these are gonna poison North America like no other project on the Earth!

Help Neil Young and the First Nations fight the Harper gov't and corporate interests from denying their indigenous rights and from poisoning the earth with tar sands filth, #dirtyenergy :

Noted. Thanks, Cal. Neil Young has always been outspoken in song and I just love this.....have always been a big fan. (BTW, Rolling Stone had some videos up of some songs from a recent live concert. They were recorded by concert-goers, but are still good quality.)

As for the statement that the Canadian Government turning " Canada's beautiful wild lands into lakes of pure hell " it's already like that for the animals who live there.
