Stand tall and proud young man!

A few years ago an Australian rugby league player, Ian Roberts, came out. It didn't go so well for him, at least in the press, with the football commentators, with supporters of his team etc. He received the predictable anonymous death threats from homophobic team supporters, he received a lot of on field banter etc. When he retired he wrote a book about his experience and went on a short speaking tour.

Things are different now. When an athlete comes out, people in general seem to be more accepting.
I hope Michael's experience will be positive; that he will be selected at the draft and that he has a great NFL career!

Some just won't matter! But--in the meantime--what a role model for other young gay men! I admire him for being honest.

He could become an NFL role model? I thought you had to have a dozen DUIs, several rape charges, a couple assault charges, and maybe a few drug or involuntary manslaughter convictions to be an NFL role model.

Congratulations for coming out. Maybe someday we will look back on this and say, what was the big deal. There is NOTHING wrong with being gay. Never has been, never will be.

I agree with Winn, this needs to stop being a big deal. Way more inportant things in the world than having to announce every gay person. Gay, straight, bi...who cares?

I applaud him for being so honest, open and courageous. I'm sure he has a good future ahead of him no matter what. Thanks Cal.
