Sorry to report, but this bill died today.. :(

It still won't hurt to keep up the pressure on the Calif. legislators, so when Assemblyman Bloom re-introduces it next year, there will be a better chance of it going through.

These mammals should be released immediately they belong at sea not cooped up in concrete tanks that are far to small for them.I notice here in the article that it states that the protest is based on emotion and it is because people are emotional about the cruelty shown to these mammals by an uncaring Sea World.

Yes I posted this when the story broke a month or so back, sadly, just yesterday the State Senate "shelved" it until next year :-(
Perhaps too many legislators itchy backs are being scratched by the the corporate world of the Sea World brand; it's a damn shame. But the author of the bill said he would keep after it.
As I have posted so many times, it's the people who take their children to this horrible place, or the zoos, or buy the furs, the leather, or spend money on ridiculous pony & elephant rides, or the brutal rodeos & the lazy ass parents that rather than get involved in their children's schools fund raising events as car washes, bake sales, yard clean ups, window washing, etc,.they actually spend money on donkey basketball! If they are so lazy to not get involved, then at least give the cash directly to the schools but, don't abuse donkeys for their laziness & lack of pro active ways to raise money!
So I blame the general public about half in much of the abuse that is taking place - supply & demand!

The tanks are too tiny to pretend that the animals are humanely treated.

What a difference a day makes! SeaWorld is a major vacation attraction. Not only did they stand to lose big bucks if this passed, but San Diego tourism revenue would be badly hurt as well. One can easily understand why dollars beat out dolphins every time! Please keep on trying!

I'm so disappointed. I was almost sure it was going to pass though I admit I'm rather naive. With movies as The Cove and Blackfish there was finally some proper media attention + there was a petition on sumofus with 1.182.000 signatures as well. It's the oldest story in the world, isn't it? $$$ win everytime!! We just have to persevere.

IF YOU CARE TO KEEP MOMENTUM GOING PLEASE SIGN FOLLOWING PETITIONS REGARDING SEAWORLD (if you haven't already) + sorry, but I don't know how to make links clickable

not a petition just shocking new report on seaworld:

There is nothing so beautiful than to see orcas free in the wild with their pods, swimming the coastal waters, playing and breaching. Magnificent!

Boy, would I like to see this bill passed! For far too long, Sea World has used these animals for their own gain while enslaving these animals and causing them such emotional pain and also shortening their lives as well! It's just too bad that these Orcas and Dolphins can't bring a class action suit against the enslaver, Sea World!

Again, human greed. Who wants to see animals that should be living in the wild, performing tricks.

This bill should not have been shelved until "whenever"'s priority and needs to be passed immediately.....drives me crazy how these legislators "don't think" of anything but themselves and accommodating the big fat cats. Thanks Cal.

I believe that I read the bill is shelved for 18mths. until 2015 for more study results and this will allow both sides to offer more arguments, which means it is not completely dead. Although this is not happening as quick as we would like, it does give more time for advocates of releasing the orcas to drum up more public support and awareness. Also note that SeaWorld, in addition to its location in San Diego, CA, also has locations in Orlando, FL and San Antonio, TX.

More than 2,100 dolphins and whales are being held in captivity at 343 facilities in 63 countries around the world, with the highest numbers of dolphinariums located in Japan (57), China (44), the United States (34), Russia (24), and Mexico (24), according to the Born Free Foundation.

I wish they would ban and burn the place. Let the Orca's go back out into the boundless oceans that they are supposed to be in. Not swimming around in circles making money for ignorant, insensitive, and heartless, humans.
