There is growing resistance from small farmers and indigenous peoples in Latin America to policies from left-wing politicians who have aligned themselves with the interests of Big AG, Big Oil, and mining interests in the region bent on exploitatation..

It's terrible for now, but I think it might be a good thing in the long run. Developing economies go through a phase in their growth where industries have the capital to invest in heavy infrastructure and do serious damage, and people don't yet have the wealth to sacrifice for the sake of the environment. I expect that the wealth will come, and then the environmental regulations will follow. Of course, the following stage has a whole hot of other problems, but they'll try to cross that bridge, or jump off, when they come to it.

Hard to believe that I can still be surprised about eco-politics. The LEFT doing the environmental damage and degradation!!! Even in a good cause, it hurts. Who it hurts most - NO surprise. Indigenous peoples have been exploited in Africa and the Americas for centuries
