The endangered Florida panther, running out of room to prowl as its numbers rebound, may find its best chance at survival is a program to pay distrustful ranchers to protect what remains of its habitat.

Noted and shared FB This could work if the farmers can be trusted not to shoot and kill them instead, but they some how need to barricade the highway some how. The one remark that concerns me is the 3 S's shoot, shovel and shut up, now this can not be trusted for the protection of the puma. Florida panther numbers have more than tripled in recent decades to between 100 and 180, according to government estimates. But state officials say more than twice as many would be needed, in multiple populations, before the species could be downgraded on the endangered list.

It would be a serious shame to let this species go the way of the Dodo Bird!

Ranchers need to keep their livestock from roaming into panther country in the first place! I hope the money will help save the panthers.
