Thank you for this information. Uganda just doesn't realize that without the trees and apes they will
be a nothing country. Hope they wake up before it's too late.

If African people showed any interest in saving fauna and flora there may be some hope. The truth is the vast majority of Africans could not give a damn. If they did canned hunting would not be allowed in South Africa, although this is mainly carried out by Americans and Europeans.. The average African sees animal as either food or a resource to make money(hence the hacking and killing of Rhino's and Elephant's) or a crop destroyer. The increasing population throughout this continent is what is damaging this continent. This constant search for more cleared land and more fresh water is the downfall and the ruination of the all OTHER species. The human species is doing splendidly in fact it is growing at an alarming rate. If nothing changes it will not only be these highly intelligent Chimpanzee's but all other large and smaller species gone forever. It is a very sad state of affairs as it is all over the world.Resources are diminishing because our beautiful planet is being over run by humans. No politician has the guts to say this.

Molly, I am not sure about your "average African" comments. These are among the poorest and most exploited people on the planet. Who buys the products etc. they supply? Why is the market so large?

Africa has far more wildlife than ANYWHERE in the first world - Europe, the U.S., etc? So why single out the Africans as being any more callous about life than the rest of us who I would argue are the much bigger problem?

Cutting down chimp forest for agriculture and ruining the river and forest eco-system is not the way forward, so sad. Ty for the information.

Sadly we have only so much influence (very little)in all the destroying that is going on worldwide, very bad for the animals there... not only chimpanzees but all the others and in the end everybody will suffer but nobody in charge seems to see it that way, nothing changed after the French King Louis the 14th said :after us flood!
indeed sad news.

The end of wildlife is very near because of 'human' greed. It is a lost cause and we will pay the price for it, eventually.

WE are too nice with the bastards that are destroying this planet, we need to really start fighting back. Being sad does nothing for the wildlife, giving this peol,e a good kick in the ass would do a lot.

Aren't we humans doing a great job of intentional destruction of Mother Earth? I am sure aliens from other planets could use our expertise to destroy our solar system and many others in a very short time. We could name the course: Destruction of All Life without Bombs 101.
