Earlier this spring, the international court of justice ruled that Japan's whaling program is commercial in nature and should end, but prime minister Shinzo Abe claims that whaling has scientific merit and is necessary for research purposes

Further, Japan is not in fact whaling for science (which is why the story and petition have "whaling for science" in quotes.) Japan is lying and the entire international community should be well aware of this by now..

This has nothing to do with science the Japanese government have themselves admitted this is so and the International court has already stated as such. The Japanese government make a great show of saving face and honor while at the same time lying through their teeth.

"Now more than ever the world has to come together to make changes. Just because certain cultures have had long-standing traditions does not mean that in today's world they are acceptable any longer. The world and the environment are evolving and that means we must change our ways as human beings as well."

Previously signed. I knew Japan would not stick to their new "policy" so this is no surprise. It has been obvious for decades that they are not killing the whales for science since they are open about whale meat. What will it take for Japan to finally make a smart and educated decision to stop whaling. Japan has gone from being one of the leading countries to the leading country trying to kill the environment along with the wildlife that depends on it.
