The pitiful state of the economy makes the U.S. vulnerable.

Noted. Thanks, Cal. I thought we were actually in the middle of a takeover. It's already happening. The Koch Brothers' State Policy Network has fueled the fire with their millions spread out over many states. And, SCOTUS just "downgraded" women to not even being adults with enough brains to make their own choices. Guns are permeating our country, and police are being militarized. Wall St. banksters are not only continuing to live high off the hog, but are taking everyone else's hogs, too! And, our complicit-Corporate Congress caters to their wealthy overlords and the Military-Industrial-Corporate Complex. What else could go wrong?

Authoritarianism is neither left or right. While many would place fascism on the right and communism on the left in reality the political ideology spectrum is more like a circle where the ends meet. But I would argue that the President and the use of executive orders as a means to approve and implement policy is a much greater threat.

I would agree John, except I would take out the word "use" and replace it with "lack"

The people are controlled by the government. The government is controlled by the corporations. The corporations have all the money so they also have the power. And the rich and powerful seem to want to take us back in time when the few had all and the many had nothing.

Noted. Thanks, Cal. I'm with you, Freya...gonna be tough to get any zzzzzzs tonight. Thoughts of nearly a thousand fascist groups, and the charmers who're members of said groups, do not make for pleasant dreams. Ugh!

If you can't sleep after reading this, how did you sleep before you read it? There is nothing new in it. It's been coming for decades and obvious for years. Authoritarians vote. Normal people who just want their Constitutional freedoms do not vote at nearly the same rate. Now there are efforts to suppress the votes of the few who do vote. We must, must, MUST vote and we must do all we can to see that everyone votes and all the votes are counted. Unless, of course, we WANT a violent bloody revolution, which is the natural successor to authoritarianism throughout history. Just once it would be nice to be able to skip that step.
