Dozens of acres of an endangered pine rockland in Florida may soon be destroyed to make way for a new Walmart. Earlier this month, the University of Miami sold 88 acres of land in Miami-Dade county to Ram Realty Services

Walmart is destroying our country. It destroys family owned businesses that can't compete. It destroys wildlife habitat with no remorse. It treats its workers abominably. And we, as shoppers, continue to support this evil company in order to save a little more money rather than support our neighbors and environment. What does that say about us, as a species?

Florida must have zoning laws that can protect this endangered land from harmful development. EPA could also provide protection.

We don't need more Walmarts destroying our land and our economy, our values and our civilization. What we need are stores that specialize in products--small stores that don't make an impact on the planet, and that actually care about the customer beyond being a number.

That said, those stores, if they must be built at all, can't be built in places where an endangered species has its last refuge. Does Florida really want that on its conscience?

A resounding no! to any more Walmarts. Did you see the story about the ice cream bar from Walmart that did not melt in the hot sun. Also, there is the issue of another large paved parking lot and subsequent runoff issues. Please be kind to the planet (the only one we will eve have).

Walmart picked a spot, not far from where I live, and that was the end of that.
The citizens of the area complained, but to no avail.
Actually, I was surprised that such a large number of people rejected their moving in and taking over a property used by another company.

It's a joke, especially when you live in a state run by a Teapublican (Tom Corbett-Pennsylvania).

"... the University of Miami sold 88 acres of land in Miami-Dade county to Ram Realty Services, which plans to clear much of the endangered land and replace it with several commercial and residential spaces."
Yes, we know that profiteers hog everything they get in their dirty claws.
But it's unbelievably abhorrent that nowadays a university doesn't seem to know anything about ecological necessities.
