Marina Silva has a chance at becoming the first environmentalist to lead a major world economy. Here is what that might look like.

Thanks for sharing this. I will vote for Marina, as I have already in 2010 - when she didn't win but made more than 20 million votes. Then I used to think that she wouldn't win that time, but surely in the next (now). Although I am still hopeful, I can see she is under a huge pressure. But let's wait; commotion on the sudden death of her political partner has not yet eased and all the conflicts on admmiting her as his substitute is still being debated. I do hope she's strong enough to cope with all these.

I am rooting for this candidate. We need her. The current government of Brazil have a dismal environmental record. So many droughts and fires in the Amazon Rainforest and there is no effort to stop the greedy miners and the clear cuts to facilitate raising live stock.

Thanks, for information on this lady....

I applaud her and hopefully the change she will bring.

Good Afternoon and thank you for the article -from what I read - the candidate sound great for her country and to the rest of the world -- I am going to watch this election as closely as I am watching our 2014 election- to give us back our HOUSE MAJORITY and keep our SENATE MAJORITY- If America can get a working congress again and Brazil can get a good government this world may have a good chance of curing what ails it--- SAVE THE RAIN FOREST- and start helping our citizens of both countries.-----Sincerely Kay M.

We'll see. The person could have good intentions, but will have to see the obstacles they face. Just like our congress and the NO party, nothing was done that benefits the middle class.

Oh boy - how naive you are. The Green Party candidate is Eduardo Jorge. Marina Silva is known as an environmentalist, but also linked to the Pentecostal movement - anti-gay rights, anti-abortion, with a creationist view of the world. Her campaign coordinator owns a private bank. She is supported by Citibank and Santander; her husband is accused of illegal exploitation of timber. Marina is the new face of the conservative right. Good for Brazil? No way! Good for US, maybe.
