Australia will abandon plans to dump 3 million cubic meters of dredged sand into the Great Barrier Reef area in its effort to create the world's biggest coal port, the Australian Financial Review reported on Tuesday.

This is great news! The fight for the reef has been going on for along time and it would have been disastrous to the Reef. I am surprised I have not gotten ore emails about it. Thanks for the good news.

Noted. Even if they dump the dredged material on land the dredging alone will do great harm to the ocean and to all of the sea life in the area. For the good of the environment and the people of Australia they should abandon the coal project.

Do so hope it is TRUE! Perhaps the Aussies have gotten their bloody heads out of their arses. Now could we do the same with our own politicos and stop our frucking fracking. No more environmental destruction, it will kill us also!

I hope this news is true, it is a small step in the right direction. Taking the exploitation of Abot Point from the table would be the desired step to take.
