" Environmental and Native American groups worry that the mines will become giant caldrons of poisons—such as mercury and arsenic—that could leach into nearby waterways. And for good reason: that's exactly what happened with similar taconite mines in Minnesota and Michigan."

They needn't worry, it is a certainty what will come. Minnesota thought the mines in the northern half of our state were done for long ago, but new techniques have made them attractive once more to those who value dollars over people's lives and safety, over the environment and the health and welfare of the people of the region. I am not surprised by Scott Walker's actions in the slightest but I hope these Native Nations prevail. It would be in the best interest of everyone but the 1%. Which makes it an incredibly difficult task, but one so very much worth doing. I'll watch with interest as this develops and help as I can because this is fight worth having.

Wild rice is much more valuable than taconite.

Noted. I believe corrupt politicians and government officials do whatever is necessary to allow corporations to do whatever they want to do even if destroys the land, water and air.

Let's all donate and share information about this. It's recently come out that the Mine corp gave over 700k to a GOP front group to help Wisconsin's Gov Scott Walker. Really ugly dealings.

Read and noted. Good video. At risk are Superior’s largest wetlands and a major source of wild rice for the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa Tribe. I hope the First Nations keep up a good fight to keep this mine out! Parts of Lake Superior are already ruined. With so much corruption and big money buying greedy Representatives out, the chances for change do not look good and money has to be taken out of politics!!!!! Or There Will Never Again Be a Democracy!!
