On the 21st of March the Arab world celebrates Mother's Day. On this day also the length of the day becomes equal to the length of the night. Nature is sending us a hint of optimism that everything is possible and as much as we feel despair, there is an e

Strangely enough, when I google "mother and child photo" I don't get the same results as the writer of this piece.

Googling that gets me to this page:

http://search.yahoo.com/search?fr=cb-hp06&type=advisor&ei=UTF-8&p=mother%20and%20child%20photo

And on the fourth entry down, which I clicked at random, the second of many pages contains a photo of a woman and her child - with the woman wearing the traditional Muslim headscarf. And, if I chose to look further, I'm sure I'd find more.

So it appears that Google does actually know that Arab and Muslim mothers and children exist.

Sorry - I accidentally used Yahoo for the above. But Google has the same type of result:

Googling mother and child brings up this page:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=mother+and+child+photos

And the second entry does indeed contain a photo of a Muslim mother and child:

http://www.acclaimimages.com/search_terms/mother_and_child.html

And again - that was a random click. I have no doubt that there are others to be found.

Glad to see you found some too, Cheryl. And, of course, Google only goes by the tags and words put down by the people who actually post photos. If I have a site with a photo of a mother and child in Gaza and I don't label it as "mother and child photo" (or words to that effect), then Google isn't going to bring it up when you're searching for "mother and child photo". Because Google obviously doesn't check the photo to see what it looks like and come up with tags of its own.....

Madalena is right, google is racist. I didn't find a single picture of a Jewish mother picking up bits of her child after a suicide bombe or crying over a baby/toddler shot by a sniper.

That is very common! when I try to google for example: "USA drug lords" it takes me to "Mexican drug lords" inmediatly!
