Many building material manufacturers flocked to asbestos as an effective product that could prevent fire damage and provide effective insulation. Now, we suffer the effects--measured by # of lives taken from Asbestos related diseases such as mesothelioma.

I continually read information about the progress towards fighting the mining of asbestos. I found an active movement to prohibit asbestos, called BAN Asbestos. Can be found here: http://www.banasbestos.us/

My grandpa was a victim of mesothelioma, an agressive cancer caused by asbestos exposure. This really is a serious issue, that I am baffled has not been addressed all this time. It's TOXIC and CARCINOGENIC!!

Yes it dangerous, if disturbed. I wonder how many people didn't die in fires because it was used?

My family lived in a house filled with asbestos. Even the hot pads for pots and pans were asbestos. So was the insulation and wrapping around the furnace pipes that ran throughout the house. I think the biggest danger lies in the installation and removal of it. Like lead paint, it's real danger lies in the airborne particles. Lots of people who simply lived in houses containing it have suffered no ill effects. You're biggest danger is when you rehab.

A good example of the dangers and flaws of approving something before the scientific study regarding health and safety are done and the costly challenges of trying to cope with such impacts later..........
