The bill, S.B. 1276, as amended by the Committee, would prohibit bans on owning particular breeds but would open the door to other regulation based on breed. Currently, Florida law bans breed discrimination throughout the state except

Here we go again- ban the pit bull. When are people gonna learn it's not the breed but the owners of some breeds that need to be banned? When you treat an animal with love and kindness it reacts accordingly. But to be mean, cruel or even indifferent to it and you could be creating a weapon of destruction instead of a loving pet. I had pitbulls for years and mine were babies who were gentle and loving as long as no one tried to hurt me. S.B. needs to be nixed in the bud now before it goes any further.

I have to say that I am torn on this issue. I (and I like to think most lawmakers) understand that pit bulls (or insert other "aggressive" breed here) aren't dangerous by themselves- it is the owners that make them that way. I am a fan of banning breeds that have become popular in certain areas as fighting dogs, however, for the safety of the breed. If it's all the rage to fight pit bulls, then if banning them in an area makes it harder to fight them, all the better. It's a shame for the people who love pit bulls, but if there are restrictions in place that allow people to keep them if they are registered and checked, even if costly, I would support that to keep these poor dogs out of the hands of psychopaths. It's hard though- ideally the psychopaths would just not exist, or not be allowed to own pets, but alas that is not the case in this imperfect world of ours :(

If Pit Bulls are "outlawed" only "outlaws" will have pitbulls. Please DO NOT DO THIS Breed Ban!! Maximise prison terms for "dogfighters", no more slap on the wrist and right back at it. Give them a reason not to do this horrific action!!! That is where the problem comes from.
