This is what we have all been waiting for! THE END OF THE SEAL SLAUGHTER!

Here is the message I received today: ( Special 'shout out' to Sarah McLachlan )

Dear Rosemary,

I'm delighted to share some exciting news. Today, Canadian senator Mac Harb introduced a historic bill to end Canada's commercial seal slaughter. Now that Russia—which had imported 95 percent of Canadian seal pelts—has joined the U.S., the E.U., Mexico, and others in banning seal fur, there are no markets for this fur. If passed, Harb's bill would transition people in sealing regions into sustainable economic programs. Senator Harb's bill comes on the heels of Sarah McLachlan's recent appeal on PETA's behalf to Prime Minister Harper urging him to end the slaughter and consider a government buyout of the sealing industry.

We are finally near ending the seal slaughter once and for all, but we need your help. Please take a few minutes and click here to urge Canadian senators to support Harb's bill.

A victory is within reach, but it is not possible without your support. Please share this urgent alert with your friends and family on Facebook, and ask them to join you in speaking up for seals today.

Thank you for everything that you do to help animals.

Sincerely,

Dan Mathews

I would love to support this bill, but I can't in good conscience aid an organization that not only fails to renounce violence as a means to its ends, but also has been known to funnel donations to people and groups that commit acts of violence that can only be considered terrorism. People who set fires and/or commit acts of vandalism for any ideological reason are terrorists. That's why I don't have anything to do with PETA.

Brian you are certainly entitled to your opinion; however I would just ask that perhaps you can at least show your solidarity towards stopping the seal hunt by looking for another petition that suits you,
or by contacting Prime Minister Harper - contact info -
I have provided both for your convenience below and I of course welcome other friend's submissions.

Everything we can do to stop the seal slaughter sooner than later is OUR GOAL !

Contact Prime Minister Harper

Also for anyone who wishes to and has not already signed IFAW's petition -

End Canada’s commercial seal hunt

Here is the link End Canada’s commercial seal hunt

Thank you to each and every friend = for the seals !

I agree re Brian! I think this is a very pompous response! We have spoken out on this nasty hunt so many times and now that a bill is in the works Brian is going to take offense with PETA and not sign it? He needs to get over himself and think about the seals, not his bruised ego!

I for one do not support Defenders of Wildlife. We have asked them repeatedly to have a presence at rallies for wolves and they have declined. They are more about glitzy ads to collect money so they can send out more glitzy ads! The have also condoned trapping. Many conservationists have little respect for Defenders, but, I HAVE ALWAYS SIGNED THE PETITIONS AS THEY DO HAVE A NAME (IF NOT THE REPUTATION) AND THEIR PETITION ARE EFFECTIVE! So, again, Brain needs to get over himself and think about the purpose of this petition, and, no matter who is supporting it, it is now out there and we all need to sign it to get this stopped. So what if it's PETA. They have done some very good things, so, let's get this hunt stopped!

If you believe that the ends justify any and all means, then clearly I am not the pompous one. If you want to work through a website sponsored by a group that has a history of funding acts of violence, then you should take a good look at your own remarkably swollen ego. My ego is not bruised by people supporting this or anything else related to PETA or not, can you say as much? I am not invested. I redeem my butterfly credits to plant trees.

Brian M. (202)
Wednesday May 2, 2012, 2:31 pm
Does PETA do good things? Well, if funding people who set fires and commit other acts of vandalism is what you consider a good thing, then that's your choice. I think such actions are criminal and terroristic no matter what the reason.

Used to be a fan of PETA, not anymore, but still do sign most of their petitions...cause I have been signing petitions for this Seal hunt to end since the last 1970's and Peta was the one that first informed me about this Clubbing. While most of the things they do are WAY OFF THE TOP, some things are good.

Also, anything to help these little innocent seals and stop this SICK Clubbing would answer some of the prayers I have been saying for them for 30 years!

Every life in the ocean , Air and Land has great value and it will only be through this understanding that we will truly reclaim the water and air and soil we need to sustain life. given the degraded condition of the ocean. Canada's resolve is tested, because Canadian scientists, have said that commercial fishing has indeed caused, profound damage to the workings of the ocean and that large fish-eaters like seals unexpectedly work to the advantage of fish. Has Canada changed its fisheries management in response to this new information? Has the seal hunt been stopped at least? No, it seems nothing has changed, instead we wonder the same old ground blaming everything that is naturally in the ocean instead of looking at the very unnatural impact of a fishers chasing money not a love to fish but a destructive presence to make money. I ask you to think about this long and hard to look to the real stake holders of the ocean. not the money managers of greed who are not concerned with tomorrow but rather with their bank accounts of today. Cod was over fished and are you ready to let this become a total collapse of fish after fish after fish.. for what???
silence is acceptance, we are change
life has value beyond measure
Peace and Love
