Marty Regalia, the chief economist at the US Chamber of Commerce, called it "the biggest return to the welfare state that we've seen in decades." The budget would create an eye-popping $1.8 trillion deficit for the 2009 fiscal year

Paul Krugman: Climate of Change

President Obama’s budget represents a huge break from policy trends. If he can get it through Congress, he will set America on a fundamentally new course.

Wasn't it Bu$h and the fi$cally rre$pon$ible RepubliCON$ who created thiggest deficit in US history and left it for President Obama and the Democrats to clean up their mes$$e$?

Biu$h's TARP Paln is a disaster and McCain couldn't hurry back to D.C. fast enough to push it thru Congre$$ with no restrictions on how those billions were spent by the bankes.

What few people seem to be mentioning or are aware of is that the stimulus package also includes the LARGEST TAX CUT IN HISTORY. It is true. The only people who's taxes will be going up are people who make over 1/4 of a million dollars. The rest of us are getting a tax break.

I LOVE taxes because I know they will help folks who need assistance!!! Of course I do not like mismanaged entities that misuse our tax funds!!
I am not afraid of the concept of socialism because it helps all citizens, however, I prefer the concept of democratic socialism. I wish all citizens would learn about that~~~

I would rather be strapped trying to make ends meet with an income above $250,000, rather than an income of $50,000, even in NYC.

After the deductions available to those at the 250k level, I suspect the tax load will be more proportionate in terms of the taxable income level compared to the 50k taxpayer. Being retired and going through a major downward income shift as a result, I have already seen the differences and benefits available to those in the higher income brackets to reduce their tax loads. I have little sympathy for those who have benefited so disproportionately from the Bush era wealth redistribution program.

For the last 8 years we have provided mega tax cuts to the wealthy without similar relief to the 50-70k wage earners. Obama's proposals are conservative compared to the radical redistribution and concentration of wealth achieved by the Bush Administration.

Look where those years have taken us; A nation divided; A nation of failing health, A nation less educated; A nation dependent on Middle East energy, A nation of failing infrastructure, A nation in decline; A world less stable, A global economy in chaos, A global environment deteriorating.

Obama is doing exactly what he said he would do. He has the audacity to hope and the brains and charisma to propose needed changes with specific and positive objectives. As he has always noted, these changes may be painful but they are needed.

If you are surprised at these proposals where were you during the election? If you do not believe these are the right changes, make constructive alternative proposals or hush up. Doing nothing is no longer an option.

not surprised one bit...I always knew Obama was a socialist. There are alternative proposals out there, but if they aren't marxist or socialist then they are failed proposals. The Socialist wing of the Democrat party has taken over and are doing everything they can to destroy this country. I just hope it's stopped before it's too late.

Obama does seem willing to bankrupt the country as quickly as possible, doesn't he? And to redistribute the wealth from the workers to the irresponsible just as fast as he can.
