Scotty is a sweet, broken soul! He is an older black poodle with a fractured hip after being hit by a car. He is in desparate NEED of surgery!

Scotty's owner, Mrs. Diane Clifford, is a a paralyzed senior citizen. Mrs. Clifford suffered a major stroke that left her paralyzed on her entire left side. She is on disability & is in desperate need of help paying for her beloved SCOTTY's surgery.
Cost of surgery is estimated $900 to $1,200.
Dr. Coghlin in Santa Ana will do the surgery IF funds are raised.

Wow the chip-in is only at $246.00,that is awe full,we can do better than that,i will donate, forward, post in my group and call them on monday to get an up-date,well i just called the hospital now and was told that Scotty is in dire need of surgery, but his owner took him home because she cannot afford the surgery he needs,we need to get this chip in up for him,he is in pain, and the owner has no money, she herself is in a wheelchair paralized,I have to wonder how she is even taking care of him?

That poor baby. I will send a donation. There is also a program that vets have the info for, basically it gives credit to have the dog or animal fixed and you pay a monthly fee. I'll find out more on this and post it.

ok. just called and donated. they said she's been a good client for over 10 years. animal control impounded the dog and then she bailed it out (which costs alot too). she has the dog at home now. they do not offer care credit or any type of monthly payments. this is a pretty low cost place in a poor neighborhood. i told them to call me if they get within $100-200 and i'll put out a desperate plea or cough it up myself.

Just donated $100, which puts us - not even close to the goal. I'm worried about this poor animal waiting much longer for surgery. Maybe a different vet would help?

Forgive me for repeating myself; has anyone contacted the local media?
I say this because I have seen where it could make a WORLD of difference!
If this story gets on the news it will reach a lot of people at once-people want to help those in their own community!

I don't get paid until this Wednesday, but will definitely donate what I can. I've had Vet bill in the thousands. I sold my beloved old boat to cover one surgery at the Vet school. Things don't matter when it's a beloved pet. This poor lady is already having a bad time, so I'll do what I can to help.

I have donated and noted, thanks Ginger.

Well done to everyone here who has donated and don't worry about the amount Sunny, this topic has been noted 48 times so far, if everyone who did that, just gave $1, Scotty would have nearly $50 from that alone!

Never think that the amount you can afford to give is too small, it could be the dollar that saves a life!

I'm going to call the vet this afternoon to find out more. Hopefully some people have been donating directly to the vets office & we are closer to the goal than we think. I've put this on Twitter. Thanks everyone for rallying to help him. I'll post what I find out from the vet later this afternoon or evening since Care2 is blocked at my job.

Just FYI: had a discussion with Dani of Meoowzresq yesterday afternoon. She expressed their gratitude for the donations and work on Scotty's behalf, and she'll pass along news of that to Mrs. Clifford.

Called the clinic this morning and talked to Jenny. She said Meoowz has given them $354 so far and she just got another $150 donation as well. Maybe Ginger will get updated numbers when she calls this afternoon.

When I called the Animal Hospital they told me that the reason why they haven't operated on Scotty sooner is because they needed a deposit before they could. He's been on pain medication & they said that once they operate his leg will be normal again since his injury is a little over a month old I was wondering about that. They have enough to go ahead & operate. His surgery is tomorrow. I don't have any updated numbers as in how much they need because I don't believe they are exactly sure how much his surgery will be.

There is a care2 member with auction skills. The real Donna.
I sent her this link.
I know for a fact that the working class are strapped right now.
But everybody probably has something of value they could auction off on ebay or an auction site (if I knew how). My idea (kill me later:) is we enlist Donna if she wants to, I'd more than be happy to send some old baseball cards (already donated old comic books and readers digest comic books on myspace some years ago) but I'm sure I still have some things of value that could drum up money. This is just a rough idea if somebody wants to smooth out the edges and figure a way to work this to help animals.

i love it kathy. garage sales are overwhelming and i'm afraid a buyer from craigslist might kill me... now that i think about it, either amazon or ebay has a little box that always asks if i have something to sell. maybe that would be an easy way for us to do this without burdening poor donna. i'll check it out.

I just made my prayers to God for this woman and her dog. And reading the comments here, may you all also be blessed. It is a good idea to contact the local radio stations and the newspapers to get help from the community. I wish I could do more. I just woke up, and I'll see what more I can do.

$545 Dlls. out of 1200 needed.

One dollar here, and other on there and a hip fix at the end.

I just made a phone call to the clinic in regard Scotty. The lady who answered the phone was very nice, she told me that Scotty is at home and STILL with a broken hip:((:(( The doctor is minimizing the price of the surgery so that he can be operated. The real price of surgery is about $2000 Dlls. but the doctor is just charging $1200
In an other words, Scotty is at home, with a broken hip, and no pain medication. Sometimes we need to run the extra mile to get what we need, Scotty can NOT do this by himself, as I say before: One dollar here, and other one there, and at the fixed hip at the end.
HE IS NOT GETTING EVEN PAIN PILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took care of people with broken hips, I know how painful that is, Jesus can anyone come up with more donations!!!? Pass it on please!!!!!!!!!!!

I just talked to Gabby at the vet. She didn't really seem to know what she was talking about.(I'm not putting her down. No doubt some people know more about this than others) We need 1 person to stay on top of this. She said that Scotty's total is $404.00.. They needed $500.00 to start surgery so I went on and gave what they needed to start surgery. I have to call back to give her money on the pain medicine, she was busy. She would not give me a transaction Id no, so hopfully it went through ok...I will let you all know later.

peggy c. (26)
Tuesday November 23, 2010, 4:35 pm
OK, I just checked my bank and the $100.00 went through...I just hope this will allow them to go on and start the surgery. Before this night is over, I will give them money for the pain medicine, but I am in Texas and I will have no idea if they will get it to him. Is there anyone who lives close enough that can pick up the medicine and take it to Mrs. Clifford? Or does anyone know if the vet has some one who can deliver it? Or after I pay for the medicine can someone call Mrs.Clifford and tell her. Maybe she can get someone to go pick it up..I'm sorry to be such a pain. But with me being so far away, there is only so much I can do. And I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for your help with Scotty. Everybody who gave money and those who wanted to give. We all give what we can. Whether it's getting the media involved, giving money, posting his story on Facebook or Twitter, everyone is doing something....Each one of us depends on the other to make this happen...Animal lovers are the best people in the world..

I just called the vet back to see about getting him his pain medicine. I talked to Jenny.....Scotty had surgery today and is receiving pain medicine through the IV. He is doing fine. I asked her why the first lady I talked to didn't know that Scotty had surgery today. She said that Gabby had just gotten there and didnot know. She also told me that a transaction Id no. is for those who give money through PayPal...So as far as I know, everything should be fine. Can some one call Mrs. Clifford and confirm this, I would be grateful. Now all we need to do is get the balance paid off. I guess it is somewhere near $700.00...Once again, thanks to everyone for making this happen....

dianne has spoken to mrs. clifford, and she's on top of everything. i'm trying to focus on publicity since i don't want to overwhelm and confuse the staff. i live fairly close and can do anything that needs to be done. however, dianne said mrs. clifford has someone helping her, so i'm sure they can get the meds. meoowzresq had given $300 to the vet to start the tests before we even got involved. they sent me a tally yesterday that showed we had added another $259. not sure how many donated in the late a.m. through evening and then today. i donated through the vet's office and meoowzresq did tell me that scotty was credited for that, so i'm sure scotty got your $100. that really is fantastic. no reason he should go without pain meds.

Tuesday November 23, 2010, 5:19 pm
Thank you Catherine for your message. It's just that none of the totals add up to the same number. When I called in they said the total Scotty had was $404. Your totals are $559.00, as of yesterday...That's why I said 1 person needs to stay on top of the money. It can get out of control real easy. The vet had 2 Scotty's there today, both had surgery...Everyone who calls in a donation, just make sure that they know that it's for Scotty Clifford..

Catherine Turley (193)
Tuesday November 23, 2010, 5:47 pm
thanks peggy. i just told meoowzresq that there is another dog named scotty that may be getting credited. i told them that you were told $404, but $300 plus $259 is what had been given as of yesterday morning. i also told them you gave $100 today plus a couple of others donated recently. i asked them to double check with the vet.

Catherine Turley (193)
Tuesday November 23, 2010, 6:05 pm
ok. it's a done deal. meoowzresq is picking up the rest of the bill. here's the email i just got:

the vet is keeping track
I do not call the vet every time someone donates
Please understand that I am busy with 275 kittens in rescue and 60 fosters
I have to date called in 450.00 in donations and 25.00 was called directly to the vet from you
I will check the paypal in a day or so and call in the current donations
Scotty's chipin now says 545.00
I just talked to Jenny and she did record a 100 payment from someone this afternoon
I am going to pay the rest of this bill myself
I already told Jenny to close the account and charge my card.
Please tell your friends thank you ----I'm closing the chip in tonight
Scotty is paid for.

sounds like we might have irritated them in our zeal to help this little guy. or maybe they just felt they could handle the expense. either way, it might be nice to remember this rescue the next time we go to make a donation. and tell others about their good work.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for staying on top of this. I haven't been able to keep track as I wanted to because I've been doing my work, someone else's work & half of yet other person's work. We are only working 3 days this week instead of 6 because of Thanksgiving & because our Commissioner gave us Friday off as well & the building will be closed Saturday. I've been real worried about this poor dog. My mind is now at rest. I am so glad that I found out about his chip in & I'm extremely grateful that all of you really rallied to help.

noted and if you need attention from local stations, have the treating vet call them or write them a letter, for newspapers, in the op ed column.....it worked here in the tri cities region for an abandoned dog needing far more surgery than little scotty...you'd be surprised at the response even one newspaper article will bring...and you might have better luck with a newspaper as they are more likely to publish this story and then the news media will pick it up from them....this local paper ran the story on the front page and continued with progress followups...all the way through collecting donations, surgery and adoption and adjustment to the new home...for the newspaper, stories ran for over two months and during that time, their sales increased by over 50% or their normal sales volume...they should know this too...

There's an easy way to thank MeoowzResQ for it's care for Scotty and for the difficult feline rescue work they do. For those of you who click on TheAnimalRescueSite.com every day - you can vote for MeoowzResQ to win a cash donation. MeoowzResQ has a site that takes donations as well. They're like many local rescue groups - they have no shelter and rely on volunteers to foster kittens. Donations mean everything to them. Visit their website to see the beautiful kittens they have for adoption. Remember this group or one near you in your Will or Estate Plan. Adopt one more and fill your home with love.

All of you here are awsome and it lifts my spirit to know of you. Happy Thanksgiving.
