I wanted to donate for the urgent surgery of these poor little adorable kittens, but the billing adress in the payment e-form doesn't shedule other countries as US-States, neither for bank- account nor for debit cards. I live in Europe. I do at the moment what I can and share on Twitter.

Thank you for the post. Ever Ribbon is a site where someone can post and ask for donations for their cause. I would help, but I need more information. I could not find any contact information. Who is the person that has the kittens? Their contact information. Is a Vetinarian involved? If so, what is their contact information. Has the exact medical cost been determined or itemized? I couldn't find any of this information. Maybe I missed it. Will come back, and see if someone knows. Thanks.

I agree with Constance. I'm not questioning whether this is legitimate, but there is no information about who is getting the donations ... a rescue group, a vet clinic, an individual? I would share this on Facebook as long as the essential information is provided. Seems a pretty big omission.

Let's get a PAYPAL account going too...some are already set up with that and don't want to set up another pay account...POSSIBLE? BARRIE is correct...I tweeted it, but the people involved need to give MUCH MORE information on WHO is handling this and contact numbers to the Clinic some will make direct contributions to the VET. Someone needs to UPDATE

You can be as nonchalant as you choose KIT, but we have saved quite a few animals here on Care2.
Recently, we saved the life of INDY from certain death, but the difference was/is...that we gave COMPLETE information. The clinic name, address, phone number, name of VET, Shelter location, director of Shelter, phone number...and since it was an INTERNATIONAL Care2 IS...we had a PAY PAL account, so that ALL could donate as they saw fit.Just like this case, there was a timeline that had to be there was at LEAST one person, from any location in the World, monitoring the Share/News/ Plea to Answer any questions. I have 35 years invested in Animal Rescue and I HAVE TO know this information if I am going to be associated with it in any way...People have to KNOW that if I ask for something...they will have all the Information PERIOD. If you don't understand that...I'm sorry, but I do not know this is the way it should leat for ME and my associates.

I would definitely contribute and have done so for many causes on C2nn ,however,as one of the people ripped off by Dawn C. those $5 to $10 donations add up if the cause is not legitimate!

Little Star (56)

Look KIT...I don't have time to argue with you or explain Professionalism in the field.
I DID check out WePay and most of the ribbons on there are for PERSONAL pleas for people who need money.
I saw NO PHONE NUMBER listed to call the WePAY office and their online Help widget is OFFLINE.
I was going to do the work that should have been done by others associated with this...and GET the information I , and others, would like to have, but since that collection Company does not have a way to contact them, at this point, other than a Mail address, I will not be pursuing further efforts on this.
Your attitude about it has not lent a positive attribute to the cause. Just as Nancy has told you, and others reading here, we have been through many situations before. Try to be understanding of People who wish to be Professional and Honest in their queries. I hope you achieve your Goal

Constance F, Little Star, and Nancy Sands are correct. We recently had an unpleasant experience with an individual who pleaded for donations on Care2 to help pay vet bills for her allegedly seriously ill dog. Many of us sent money and have now discovered that it was a scam. There is nothing wrong with her dog. She has posted pleas for donations on numerous Web sites including Best Friends and undoubtedly is still collecting money under false pretenses. With so many good causes which need and deserve support, it is irresponsible to not use due diligence in investigating the legitimacy of a cause before deciding to contribute to it. This is true no matter whether you propose to donate a large or small amount.

In light of the recent disclosure about Dawn C who was scamming people for donations to care for her supposedly sick dog, I think the skepticism expressed by some is entirely justified. There really isn't any pertinent information provided about these little kitties. I would be willing to make a donation once I know more information which I believe is perfectly reasonable.

Nancilee I (31)

Donation made. I looked on FaceBook for EverRibbon and for the person who established the donation... found and looked up Suzanne Moller. This seems to be a valid request. I looked very closely at the photos of the kittens, they do look as though there is something wrong with their eyes... it does appear that they have no eyelids.
Maybe I just have an awfully soft spot for felines, but after seeing the photos and checking as much as I did, I decided to donate.

There is no reason this operation should cost $3000. It is a relatively simple procedure. Either the vet is scamming the caregivers or the caregivers are scamming the public.

I have to agree with Constance. IS this a rescue? a person?
I myself got scammed a few times on myspace, which is why I only post for 501-c Licensed rescues that I've worked with int he past or animal rights groups that I'm familiar with.
Care2 has so many wonderful caring heart felt animal lovers on here.
But at the same time, I know so many on here are on fixed incomes or are strapped because of the economy. I don't want to see anybody get scammed. It hurts the good rescues that need us. And we should always check before giving because good rescues don't live on the donations they get for the animals. The good ones all have jobs & support themselves so all the money goes towards the animals. Just my opinion

I was ready to donate as soon as I saw the headline, but because I am unfamiliar with Ever Ribbon, I began looking for more info, too. Kit, you keep saying "it's only $5", but who knows how much other people are donating? I intended to give more. There are so many worthy causes and I cannot afford to be scammed as I pick and choose where to send my small donations. What's up with Yuliana, who claims to be pledging $15,000? (read comments on the Ever Ribbon page) If that's the case, the surgery is paid for. The surgery is not being performed until next month (a long time to suffer for the kittens) so we have a couple weeks to get more info. I will donate if I know it is not a scam, and still may give a few dollars if no additional info is provided.

You concerned "activists" do the math and make the excuses. I gave for all of you too worried to fork over $5.00. There is as usual a lot of drama on this site and few who give. I can't verfiy even when I have called "Vets" offices that any of it is real on two occasions it was not. I give from the heart and yes from emotion, from a desire to do what seems or feels the right thing to do. I'm intentionally unprofessional, about my concern and love for animals in need.

Anne K (139)
Thursday February 17, 2011, 5:42 pm
Kit, I am not making excuses. My 15 year old cat Bettina was just back to the vet for an ongoing problem that has cost us $600 in 6 months. My husband and I support local rescuers as well. There are so many animals in need of help, we need to know that the money we give is actually going to help the animals, because we don't have enough $5 bills to give to every request for help. Maybe you can afford to give $5 to 100 animals, but not all of us can. If I give $5 to a con artist, that's $5 that a real animal in need will not receive. Asking questions before donating is wise.

Genoveva M M (328)
Thursday February 17, 2011, 6:47 pm
I WILL DONATE ONLY IF if I get the phone number of the clinic where they are going to get the surgery.
After many Care2 member have been scam by a dishonest person, I have no desire to be a victim of a scam. I work to hard to make a living. I hope this innocent kitties get the surgery soon, but we need a legitimate phone number with the clinics name. May God bless this kitties and minor their pain.

Boy do you people get testy .I had no troublle giving from Australia a$ 10 donation to ever ribbon. Compared to what we have spent on our old Siamese that's peanuts. He is anaemic and diabetic ,but to us he is beyond price. So far we have spent more than$8000 but no expence is too much. Even if this is a scam ,so what take a chance. What is the fuss. A few dollars possibly risked, but the potential to do great good. If we all sat on our hands scared of a bit of risk (if you can call the price of a couple of cups of coffee a risk), then nothing would ever get done.
Please repost if Paypal can be arranged. If people really want to do something they will do it. Otherwise why make a comment.

Little Star (56)

KIT..and anyone else with their insulting repartee .I will try to explain something and then MAYBE the snarky comments will stop.
I was speaking about my forwarding the very lacking Information, about this cause, to people that I know.
It would be damaging to my reputation to get my friends and associates involved IF, and it is an IF, it is not a genuine cause. Is that a risk?...MOST ASSUREDLY...YES !!!..People count on my HONESTY and Moral conduct, and have for many years If I were to ask them and something was afoul ...How could they have trust in me ever again ?
.I run a Cat Hospice myself. I pay enormous amounts of money for my cats and for others that I help. I have donated MANY times, to many causes on Care2 and well as, donating my time and efforts to stop the cruelty to animals. I take OFFENSE at your inference that we, who ask for more information, are NON-CARING PEOPLE making excuses to not get involved or send money. If I was not interested in getting involved, I wouldn't have even asked the questions. I would have just skipped over the whole thing. There is no DRAMA in asking for verification on the situation and your insulting comments to us only drive a wedge between the many people who have been here for over 10 years HELPING MANY and those of you who seem to want to make assumptions about others, just because we handle situations differently.
Instead of all these back handed comments to us...would it not have been easier to contact those, you know, who are handling this, gather the information and then POST it for us to see?
Stop always thinking it is only about the money...there are other factors involved.Have you not understood that ? You have no idea how many emails I have received about the insulting way you , and a few others, have responded to us on this.
YOU LOSE SUPPORT and CREDIBILITY by treating others in this manner....THINK on THAT point.

This is a legitimate question. Why are these poor kittens being put through more pain with a surgery that may or may not work properly? Why can't they be humanely put to sleep and put out of MORE suffering? When there are so many healthy cats and kittens being destroyed every day in shelters and pounds, why is all this money being spent on these two?

Now before I am accused of being uncaring, - I'm not. Have spent many years in animal welfare, and see too often where the "Save them at all costs" means that many more die unnecessarily. The poor kittens are worth caring for and feeling for BUT - can we please get a dose of reality and see that they are in pain and that they will continue to be so. The surgery itself will be painful for them and also during the recovery. There is no guarantee that they will be corrected 100%. And during the time it has taken me to type this - how many more cats/ kittens have just been put down? Healthy loving animals that won't get a chance at a life as they are not on a "rescue or save them" plea?????? Their only fault is to be "ordinary" cats/ kitties - so have much less public appeal. :-(

I am one of THOUSANDS on C2 who were recently SCAMMED out of money by our dear friend Dawn. The Ribbon Site is legit, however, they require NO PROOF, anyone can set up an account and call it whatever they want. Bottom line is that the donations go to the person that set it up, and EVEN YOU can set up your own little "Help Me" site and ask for money. Heck, if this one works, I will set up one of my own. At least I know I can count on my friend Kit to donate!

Considering all the unwanted healthy cats in the shelters waiting for homes, would it not be kinder and more humane to put down the unhealthy kittens that will go blind? I think alot of the times Vets give the wrong advise to grieving people just for the benefit of lining pockets.

I contacted the person who set up the donations thru' EverRibbon. Here is what I found out:
The kitties are in a foster home with Reverend Pat Hightower. The surgery will most likely be done by Dr. Faher at City of Angels here in Culver City although we have a consult with one more opthamologist just to confirm what needs to be done. Original cost was 3,000 each but they are going to do both for the one price.

Yes, I know that people are skeptical when it comes to donating their money but I give my money with the right spirit and yes, sometimes you get took. Either you have the money to spare and wish to donate or you don't. And I know that $5 her and $5 there do add up expecially if you are on a fixed income or disability but I am not going to take from meeting my needs over meeting someone elses needs. If I have extra and can afford to donate, then I do but it will not be a large sum.
Yes, I am on disability and still at this present time trying to raise the remaining funds for my little Kiwi's next surgery- that is just about all raised up and yes...I too was scammed by this D.C.person and donated to this persons cause and I do not feel bad about the donation as it came from my heart....I feel betrayed by this person.
I am willing to donate $5 or $10 to help these little kittens and if the money goes elsewhere....then they needed it worse than I did. All of what has happend lately with some scams is not going to put a cloud over me and dampen my spirit when it comes to helping out the lovely animals of this world.
Where exactly do I go to make this donation?
Please let me know ginger and I will get right on it. Bless the little Kittens. We can't have them in pain. "Dusty"

as far as putting down two PERFECTLY HEALTHY kittens who just happen to have been with a congenital defect which can easily be fixed... this is unthinkable. The kittens are healthy, the surgery is a simple one, the cost is not prohibitive (see my post above), with the surgery, the kittens will not go blind. The Vet is not trying to line his pocket... they are not a lost cause.

Dusty, I don't expect you to donate. You still need money for Kiwi. Donations are coming in well for these poor cats. They'll meet the goal. If they have what I think they have, it's called Eyelid Agenesis. My parents cat Sparky was born with this & I saw how he suffered until he had surgery & yes, the surgery isn't cheap especially since most vets charge for all the rechecks too. Luckily for my parents, the vet that operated on Sparky didn't. I could tell by looking at the pictures that something was wrong with these cats eyes & it's easy to fix.

I understand some people being uneasy about donating, especially after the Dawn C scam. It's horrible how people like her ruin animals chances of a better life who have honest problems because people can't trust because of what she did.

REIMBERSEMENT OF FUNDS for those of you who Donated to Dawn Chapdelaine:

If you have made a donation to Dawn Chapdelaine for her Dog "Waldo" or for any other cause to her, there are somethings that you can do:

1.) Contact Chip-In or PayPal and contact the "Fraudulant Dept." and file a dispute claim for an investigation. This will take approximately 7 days and then they can reimberse your loss funds depending on how long ago it was.
2.) It has been past Chip-In or PayPal's time frame to reimberse the may contact her father at this e-mail and let them know how much you donated, who you are and where they can send the money back to reimberse you for you loss. Her parents have been in constant contact with me and have asked me to let you all know that they have every intention of paying everyone back and Dawn will be paying them back out of her disability check.
Their e-mail address is: Mike Chapdelaine at
Phone Number: (301)262-3990

3.) If you mailed her money using the Postal System their address is:

Mike and Andre Chapdelaine
12112 Wilmont Turn
Bowie, MD 20715-1230

Be honest with them about how much you donated as her father is a Judge in the Court don't lie because you are mad at Dawn. Her parents are trying to work with everyone and see to it that everyone is reimbersed. Remember, they did not commit this crime - Dawn did, and they are just as much of a victim as we have been and scammed by her as well.

Donation made. Thanks Nancilee for the information, and your positive input to this cause. Judging others for being skeptical is not right, specially if you got scammed by the friend of someone who you donated too. NO I wont collect my money back from the person who scammed me here because, I want karma to take care of that. Money comes and go, I am not greedy, but can't be blame either as many of us here who got scammed. Also I have a poppy who got sick a few weeks ago, his treatment was close to $500.00 Dllr. that I paid with credit card because I didn't have that money on my packet, In this case or any animal case "Either you have the money or you don't" Doesn't apply, when you have an animal you have an other family member, who you must be prepare to take care of, I should say Either you can take care of your pets or you don't have one. In this case I understand these innocent kitties depend solely in donation therefore, DONATION MADE since they don't have an owner. Thanks Ginger too as well as Nancilee.

Last year at about this time, two of our three cats got very, very sick (different conditions). Their Dr. bills were over 1,000.00 in just one , month. Needless to say we used our credit card. The same thing happened to our third kitty later in the year... more expensive that the other two... credit card again. I could never let my cats go without treatment because of financial situations. So, when I hear of pets in need, I do whatever I can to help. I haven't been scammed so far, bit I feel as you do... karma will take care of the situation. I checked up on this latest plea because so many people were questioning it... and I understand why. Now that more is known, I hope those who were hesitant to help will feel confident about donating to help these two precious kitties.

It has taken me awhile to get back here.. Thank you for the many intelligent posts. Nancilee was kind enough to provide the foster name Reverend Hightower(no contact) and the possible opthamologist Dr. Faher (no contact). I am sure it is fine, and I think it is fine if people choose to donate without verifiable information, and I think it is fine if people choose not to. What is not fine is telling people how to choose to give (jeez, the guilt-tripping...) Presently, there are so many rescues and organizations that are in desperate need for money. Choose to give where you are comfortable.

I'd love to donate, but it seems they don't accept money from Canadian Banks. I don't use Credit Cards. This always happens to me . . .

Hi everyone,

I'm Sophie from WePay and I just wanted to say hi. I saw that some of you were concerned about the security of WePay. Here is more information about the security of the site:

I don't know much about the situation with the kittens (ie veterinarians, etc) but you can request to join the group here: As a group member you'll be able to see information about who donated and where the money is going.

My direct line is 650-521-9674 if you have any questions! And I'm usually on live chat on from 8-8 everyday.

Hey everyone. My name is Suzanne Moller and I am the one who is trying to raise funds for these babies to get their surgery. We originally consulted with Dr. Christine Faher at City of Angels in Culver City CA. She is an eye specialist. Surgery was quoted at 3,000.00 per kitten. However Dr. Faher offered to do one for free. We have a consult with another doctor today just to get another opinion. All funds have been forwarded on to the Ladera Cat Project, headed by Reverend Pat Hightower, founder of the organization which is in the process of getting their 501c right now. They are a dedicated group of women who live in Ladera Heights, here in Los Angeles and have been TNR'ing the cats in their neighborhood for a year now and actually just fixed their 100th animal. I would be more then happy toi provide any information any of you would like to verify the authenticity of this Everribbon quest. ALL money raised will go to pay for the surgery, their vet visits, aftercare, medication etc etc etc. They will need continued care for life. Drops 3 or 4 times a day and ointment.

Thanks for donating everyone

Hi everyone...just wanted to send an update on this. Its really good news!! I received this email from Suzanne today.

Hey everyone,

I started writing thank you notes to everyone on an individual basis in my spare time (yeah right) and then the kids had their surgery so I realized it was just faster and easier to let everyone know how they are doing.

Xena and Herc had their surgery earlier this week, did fabulously well and are now at home recuperating. We should see their personalities really start to blossom now that they are no longer in pain every time they blink.

When they heal up I will make sure we send pictures of them to all of you so you can see what your generosity and kindness has done for these kitties.

Thank you again from all the ladies of the Ladera Cat Project.
