One of the weakest states for anti-cruelty laws is North Dakota, and unfortunately, it appears that it will stay that way for the time being. Voters defeated a measure which would have made animal cruelty a felony.

A very sad article. Noted. We must not give up. We must continue to educate the public until such time as they are ready and willing to demand that animal cruelty be penalized as a felony offense.

this is a disaster, why would they reject it? please continue to pressure the authorities to educate the public why they should have such laws in place. i think the media should have 'blackout' days where animal abuse pics are plastered all over. perhaps the shock and awe tactic may knock some sense into the residents there.

Maybe next time the law should require abusers to trade places with the animals in their charge for a day.

Very sad indeed. Have you ever noticed that the most conservative states have the worst animal protection laws?

Farm groups. Have a lot to hide because of their own animal cruelty. Are afraid that they will be accused too.
Noted. Thanks Ginger.

What the hell is wrong with those frigging people this really makes me mad! What kind of people would NOT want to protect animals from harm what kind of people wouldnt want someone to be punished to the fullest extent of the law for hurting animals! North Dakota should be ashamed and all the peole living there should be ashamed now they can be seen as animal haters how disgusting! I say boycott any and all things North Dakota....Bastards

If it is farmers behind this then they should clean up their own acts. This is terrible and very backwoods.

Of course will not pass. That would require a revision and it would not be made for dogs and cats only. And of course, they would never protect wolf or change the right to kill them in any way or use the fur or kill a bison... But the cause of meat is a motive.. Again,if people stop eating meat for some months, very probably new businesses would appear instead of that of meat and very probably law would pass with flying colors! In the meantime, they are satisfying people, producing meat is their way of life and all the animals falling in between cannot be protected because they do not want to make changes that could affect their business and fun (hunting). They need the law as is. Only way to protect animals is not eating meat for some time to change the way things are. No demand = no need to offer, no need to "protect" livestock, no need to kill wolves or bisons, then, why not a law to protect dogs and cats, small animals, the rest of farm animals etc..? Eating meat is not only causing damage to environment, the loose of good water, hunger in the world, suffering to and killing of animals but make impossible to bring a law for the protection of animals because that would mean very probably a big change that could affect how the things are done today and they are very happy with them as they are.
Noted TY!
